Cassie Paxman is wide eyed and nervous as I look at her on my screen, tomorrow is her first swim with a camera and water housing, she wants to be as prepared as possible and has agreed to record with me as she has some final questions. The forecast is for a large swell to march in from the open ocean and she's determined to go no matter what!

I first met Kuhio at Dbah beach on the boarder of Qld and NSW in Australia. It's a popular surf beach and Kuhio was traveling with his wife, I some how ended up having a back and forth on Instagram about something and here I was, walking on the hot sand, on a hot day to meet a guy I'd never met in person before. We compared cameras as all photographers do...mine was bigger and more robust, his was nimble and easy to adapt to the conditions...we ended up swimming and surfing the small beach breaks for a couple hours. The next day he was on a plane back to Hawaii.

Kuhio hosted Trav on his first expedition to Hawaii, in this podcast episode we talk about that, shooting pipe, being published in the last ever edition of Surfer Magazine, what the best gear in his opinion is, what he's learned after being rescued and much more.

Trent Mitchell leads me into his studio not far from the beach I last saw him. I first approached him about an interview nearly a year ago after listening to him speak on a panel at an Aquatech event. I kept seeing him in the water and at different events, it took a while to get a sit down with him.

Trents shot campaigns for big Banks, Mick Fanning and a number of other surf and non surf brands.

Former Graphic designer, Surf Mag editor and current commercial photographer, Trent boast's a number of awards, exhibitions since 2006 and is in the process of releasing his third book.

Jo Tennant is a 7 year professional photographer, a runner up for the 2019 Scottish Portrait Awards and a beginner to getting in the cold, cold waters of Edinburgh with her camera.

Brad Delaney's an unassuming man, softly spoken, always dressed in black. I met him one morning exiting the water on a day when the claz was particularly good. "Whats it like?' I asked...

"Beautiful" was the one word answer he gave.

In this episode of Chasing Clarity I get more than one word answers out of a man thats lived a colourful life and in the face of adversity formed a solid black and white mantra.

We talk about a childhood spent living in a bar in Melbourne, as an adult working in Nightclubs and having 2000 staff, how he got started taking pictures of beautiful models, transitioned to Ocean Imagery, sought a different life in Japan, upset the Yakuza then returned to the Gold Coast to battle cancer and come full circle to photograph in studio again.

So many learnings to unravel in the stories of lived experience...my favourite way of learning.

"Mike! Mate your breaking up a little bit!" I yell down the camera whilst on a video call with Mike Waggoner, owner of Essex Water Housings. It's mid Covid, Mike's in lockdown and internet use in both US and Australia is through the roof, my face freezes on screen mid sentence....I'm glad the wind didn't change!
