● Chizkiyahu gets sick and Yeshayahu visits him to tell him that he will die.
● Chizkiyahu davens and Yeshayahu tells him that Hashem will heal him and give him another 15 years of life and that He will save him from Ashur.
● He takes a cake of figs and places it on Chizkiyahu’s boil, healing it.
● Chizkiyahu asks for a sign that he will go to the Beis Hashem so Yeshayahu, upon his request, turns back time on the sundial of Achaz by ten degrees.
● The king of Bavel sends letters and a gift to Chizkiyahu and Chizkiyahu shows the king all his treasuries and everything in his palace so Yeshayahu reprimands him telling him that everything in his house will eventually be taken to Bavel including some of his sons.
● Chizkiyahu accepts the decree as good and states that at least there will be peace and truth in his life. Chizkiyahu ultimately dies and is succeeded by his son Menashe.

● Chizkiyahu rents his garments and sends a message asking Yeshayahu HaNavi to pray for them.
● Yeshayahu sends back word that Chizkiyahu need not fear.
● Sancheiriv sends another message to Chizkiyahu telling him to give up Yerushalayim because no god was able to save any of the nations that he had already conquered and Hashem was no different.
● Chizkiyahu takes the letters of the message to the Beis HaMikdash, spreads them out, and davens that Hashem show that He is different than all the idols of the nations that Sancheiriv mocked by saving Yehudah.
● Yeshayahu responds to Chizkiyahu with an encouraging prophecy in which Hashem says that Sancheiriv’s military success wasn’t due to his own strength but rather Hashem’s deliverance of them into his hands but since he is arrogant because of it and mocks Yehudah and their G-d, He would ensure that Sancheiriv would not step foot into the city.
● Indeed, Hashem strikes down 185,000 people of the camp of Ashur without them even having stepped foot in Yerushalayim, decisively ending the siege.
● Sancheiriv shamefully returns to Ashur and dwells in Ninvei until he is assassinated by two of his sons, who subsequently flee to Ararat, and is succeeded by a third son.

Chizkiyah ben Achaz Melech Yehudah is as righteous as Dovid was as he actually removes the bamos, destroys pillars and Asheiros, and even destroys Nechushtan, the copper snake which Moshe had made which was later turned into Avodah Zarah.
Chizkiyah clings to G-d, keeps all of the Toras Moshe, and is very successful.
In the fourth year of his reign, Sancheiriv besieges Yisrael and ultimately exiles them, which happened because of their sins, but in the 14th year of his reign, Sancheiriv attacks and captures the cities of Yehudah.
Chizkiyah asks Sancheiriv to name his price to leave Yehudah alone and Sancheiriv names an exorbitant amount, which Chizkiyah pays through emptying out the Beis HaMikdash and royal treasuries and by stripping off the layer of gold that he added to the Heichal doors.
Sancheiriv sends three men to Chizkiyah and then call him out and he sends his Sofeir and Mazkir.
One of the three men, Rav-Shakei, arrogantly tells them to deliver a message in which they mock the “confidence” of Chizkiyah telling him that he had not his own strength, Egypt, or even Hashem to rely upon as Hashem had “sent” Ashur to destroy Yerushalayim.

● Hoisheia Melech Yisrael is evil but not as much as the previous Malchei Yisrael.
● He had been a “servant” of Shalmaneser (a.k.a. Sancheiriv, according to chazal) Melech Ashur and had paid tribute to him, but when he tries to break away and ally himself with the king of Egypt, Shalmaneser finds out and incarcerates Hosheia and conquers the Ten Tribes, exiling them to Ashur.
● The Navi recaps the history of Malchus Yisrael stating that they all sinned, following in the ways of Yaravam, committing all kinds of acts of avodah zarah, immorality, and even child sacrifices that were contrary to the laws of the Torah.
● G-d continuously sent prophets to rebuke them but they wouldn’t listen so all of Yisrael, with the exception of “Yehudah,” was exiled, although Yehudah wasn’t perfect either.
● Melech Ashur relocates various nations, including the Bavliim and the Kusim, to Shomron in place of Yisrael but they are being killed by lions.
● Melech Ashur is told that it’s because the nations don’t know how to serve Hashem so Melech Ashur imports a Kohen to instruct them on how to fear Hashem.
● The result is that they serve all their regular idols while also serving Hashem.
● Their (either the Kusim and the Ten Shvatim) insincere fear of Hashem is indicated by the fact that they do not properly follow the Torah and other Jewish practices.
● Even though Hashem took the Bnei Yisrael out of Mitzrayim and made a bris with them forbidding idolatry, they (either the Kusim and the Ten Shvatim or just the Kusim) didn’t listen and did idolatry anyway.

● Achaz Melech Yehudah is evil like the kings of Yisrael and even worships Molech and uses bamos.
● Retzin Melech Aram and Pekach Melech Yisrael evict Yehudah from Eilas so Achaz pays off Tiglas Plesser Melech Ashur, emptying the temple and royal treasuries, to help him and Melech Ashur kills Melech Aram.
● Achaz sees a mizbeiach in Damesek and asks Uriah HaKohen to build a replica for the Beis HaMikdash and Achaz brings a korban there.
● He commands Uriah to always do the avodah on the new mizbeiach and he does.
● Achaz renovates the Chatzeir and his renovations include removing the Kiyoros, the Yam Shel Shlomo, the Shabbos awning, and the king’s entrance.
● Achaz dies after ruling for 16 years and is succeeded by his son Chizkiyahu.

Amatziah Melech Yehudah is righteous but not quite like Dovid but rather more like his father Yoash.
He doesn’t remove bamos from Yehudah.
Once his malchus is secure, he orders for the execution of his father’s assassins but he refuses to punish the families of the assassins because that is against Torah law.
He strikes down Edom and then challenges Yoash ben Achaziah Melech Yisrael.
Yoash tells him not to be so arrogant because of his victory over Edom because he will cause himself and Yehudah to be defeated.
Amatziah ignores the threat and goes to war against Yisrael and is easily defeated and even captured.
Yoash ransacks the Beis HaMikdash and takes its wealth. Yoash eventually dies and is succeeded by his son Yaravam and 15 years later, Amatziah flees, is assassinated, and succeeded by his son Azariah (also known as Uziah) who brings Eilas back to Yehudah.
Yaravam ben Yoash follows in the sinful ways of Yaravam ben Nevat but he restores land to Yisrael due to the grace of G-d because He doesn’t want Yisrael to be destroyed. Yaravam dies and is succeeded by his son Zechariah.

● Yehoachaz ben Yeihu Melech Yisrael follows in the ways of Yaravam so Hashem gives over Yisrael to Hazael and his son Ben-Hadad.
● Yehoachaz prays so Hashem sends a savior to hold off Aram and maintain security for Yisrael, but Yehoachaz continues in his sinful ways and is succeeded by his son Yoash in the 37th year of the reign of Yoash ben Achaziah Melech Yehudah.
● The Navi records how Yoash Melech Yisrael also follows in Yaravam’s ways, that he fights against Amatziah Melech Yehudah, and that we is succeeded by his son Yaravam.
● The Navi then tells us that Yoash Melech Yisrael (years before his own death which had just been recorded) visits Elisha on his deathbed and cries over his “father” Elisha. Elisha tells Yoash to get a bow and arrows and shoot them out the window towards Aram as a sign of his striking Aram down to its destruction. Yoash does so but only shoots three arrows, angering Elisha and Elisha tells him that had he done five or six times, he would have been able to completely destroy Aram.
● Elisha dies and is buried. At some point, a corpse is thrown into Elisha’s grave and upon contact with Elisha’s bones, the corpse comes back to life.
● The Navi says that while Hazael oppressed Yisrael during Yehoachaz’s life, Hashem helped preserve Yisrael because of the Avos and Yoash had taken back the cities from Ben-Hadad ben Hazael by striking Aram three times.

Yehoash Melech Yehudah is righteous (all the days that Yehoyada taught him) but he doesn’t remove the bamos.
He instructs the Kohanim to collect money from the nation and appoints them in charge of repairing the Beis HaMikdash.
After many years of repair not taking place, Yehoash changes the system and instead puts a pushka next to the Mizbeiach and when it would fill up, the Kohen Gadol and royal Sofeir would collect it and give it to people to repair the Beis HaMikdash.
They repair the Beis HaMikdash with the funds and certain leftovers go to the Kohanim.
“Then” Hazael conquers Gas and comes for Yerushalayim but Yehoash bribes him not to attack with everything in the temple treasury.
Yoash is killed by his servants Yozachar and Yehozavad and he is succeeded by his son Amatziah.

● Upon seeing the death of her son Achaziah (ben Yehoram of Yehudah), Asalyah (bas Achav) kills out the entire royal family except for Yoash ben Achaziah who is smuggled by Achaziah’s sister Yehosheva and hidden and cared for in the Beis HaMikdash for six years.
● In the seventh year, Yehoyada HaKohen (Gadol) swears the captains to secrecy, shows them Yoash, and then instructs them in a mission which will protect Yoash and overthrow Asalyah.
● He arms them with weaponry from the Beis HaMikdash treasury and that Shabbos, they have a procession and announce “Yechi HaMelech!”
● Asalyah sees the sight and yells out that it’s a rebellion and Yehoyada has his men seize her, remove her from the Beis HaMikdash, and kill her.
● Yehoyada then seals a bris between the nation, King Yoash, and Hashem making the nation pledge to be an Am Hashem.
● They travel throughout Yehudah destroying all the Baal idols and images and slaughter Matan the Kohen Baal.
