Yeshayahu continues prophesying about the downfall of Bavel and speaks about how the oppressors of the Jewish people will become captives and slaves.
He quotes a parable that will be said at the time which speaks in astonishment regarding the downfall of the arrogant Nevuchadnetzar.
Nevuchadnetzar planned on being greater than G-d yet he will be welcomed to the netherworld by the deceased who will note the irony of his downfall and note that he is mortal like they were but he won’t even enjoy a peaceful burial and death in the grave.
The parable ends with instruction for the people of the empire to kill out Nevuchadnetzar’s family lest they rise up and continue his cruel mission.
Yeshayahu continues to prophesy in G-d’s name saying that He will end the lineage of Nevuchadnetzar, just as He would have destroyed Ashur before taking out Bavel.
He then shares a prophecy to the Pelishtim in year of Achaz’s death warning them not to rejoice over their temporary victory (when Achaz was king) for a “viper” (Chizkiyahu) will avenge them and the messengers of the nation will announce that Hashem has established Tzion.

Yeshayahu foresees a descendant of Yishai (Mashiach ben Dovid) who will be imbued with divine wisdom who will judge the world with righteousness.
The Mashiach will bring the world to the famously promised state where “the wolf and lamb will dwell together” and there will be no damage on the sacred mountain.
Hashem will gather in all the exiles from the four corners of the earth, there will be unity between Yehudah and Ephraim, Bnei Yisrael will have dominion over Edom, Moav, and Amon, and the river will be split into seven paths back to Eretz Yisrael.

● Yeshayahu continues his lament from the previous perek and uses the same refrain, this time speaking about those who forge documents, pervert justice, oppress the needy, etc. and rhetorically asks how they expect to escape the day of reckoning.
● Yeshayahu then turns to Ashur in the name of Hashem and mocks the foolish arrogance of Ashur for thinking that its own power accomplished its feats and for not realizing that it was merely a rod in the hand of G-d.
● He compares Ashur to a proud hatchet or saw thinking it’s greater than the chopper or wielder.
● Therefore, says Hashem, a fire will burn his army like a forest with minimal survivors.
● This will inspire the faith of the remnant of the Jews and they will return to Hashem.
● Therefore, despite Ashur’s powerful exile of the Ten Tribes, Yehudah should not be scared because Ashur will be defeated like Midian and Mitzrayim were.

● Yeshayahu praises G-d’s future, unforeseeable, miraculous destruction of the army of Ashur which will happen through the child (Chizkiyahu) named “שַׂר-שָׁלוֹם”.
● After praising G-d for the future salvation of Yehudah, Yeshayahu warns about the impending doom which will befall Ephraim since it has been sinful and didn’t take His messages seriously, because of it’s perverted leaders and false prophets, and because of the cruel, selfish people.
● He laments how Ephraim and Menashe are against each other but then work together against Yehudah and closes every lament with the refrain “בְּכָל-זֹאת לֹא-שָׁב אַפּוֹ, וְעוֹד יָדוֹ נְטוּיָה”.

Yeshayahu recalls that Hashem told him to get a scroll and to write on it “Maheir Shalal Chash Baz - Plunder hastens, spoils quicken” and he says that he appointed Uriah HaKohen and Zechariahu as “witnesses.”
He told him to name the son of “the Neviah” (his wife) “Maheir Shalal Chash Baz” as the spoils of Damesek and Shomron would soon go to Ashur.
He says that Hashem said further that since Pekach teamed up with Melech Aram against Yehudah, it will be wiped out by Ashur and the flood waters will go (only) up to the “neck of Yehudah.”
Yeshayahu tells the attackers that they can plan to do evil but G-d will overturn their plans.
He then says that Hashem warned him not to align himself with others but rather have faith in Him and to pass this message on.
He says that he will await Hashem and His signs rather than ask insubstantial diviners.
He then speaks about Ashur exiling the Ten Tribes and how the idolaters will have nobody to turn to.

● In the days of Achaz, Retzin Melech Aram and Pekach ben Remalyahu Melech Yisrael go to wage war against Yerushalayim, terrifying Yehudah.
● Hashem tells Yeshayahu to take his son Sh’ar Yashuv to meet Achaz and tell him not to fear Retzin and Pekach, especially because “(Malchus) Ephraim” will only last another 65 years.
● He then asks Achaz what sign he would like for proof but Achaz rejects the offer.
● Yeshayahu rebukes Achaz’ disrespect and says the sign will be that “the young, pregnant woman” will name her son Imanuel and this son will already be eating cream and honey (in prosperity) while he is very young as Pekach’s and Retzin’s land will be abandoned.
● He then tells him about Ashur’s invasion of Yehudah and the ultimate miraculous defeat.
● He continues that after the defeat of Ashur, there will be prosperity and an abundance of property for those of Yehudah who remain.
