● Yeshayahu prophesies the desolation of “the land.”
● Rashi says the desolation is during Milchamas Gog U’Magog, Targum Yonasan and Radak say it refers to Galus Ashur for Malchus Yisrael, and Abarbanel says it’s Bavel’s conquest of the Middle East (including Yehudah, Amon, Moav, Tzidon, Mitzrayim, etc.).
● Yeshayahu describes how people will be indiscriminately scattered no matter what their status and how the land will become empty and withered and he says this is all because they transgressed their laws.
● He says that there will be very few people left and people will want wine but won’t be able to get it.
● Eventually, the survivors will sing with great gladness to Hashem.
● Yeshayahu himself, however, laments the losses and the inescapable judgement of Hashem.
● He then says that at the end, people will be imprisoned but ultimately remembered and at that point, Hashem will reign in Yerushalayim and His “elders” will be honored.

Yeshayahu prophesies the downfall of Tzor.
He says that the once illustrious merchants of Tzor will be unproductive and (the inhabitants and/or merchants of) Tzor should move on to Tarshish.
Tzidon, as well, is advised to move on to Kitim.
Yeshayahu then compares Tzor to a forgotten prostitute who will try to get her customers back and then eventually will get them back.
He then says that ultimately, her wages will end up becoming Kodesh LaShem; it won’t be stored but rather will provide for those who sit before Hashem.

● Yeshayahu delivers a Masa to Gei Chizayon (the “Valley of Vision,” Yerushalayim) speaking of the people going up to the roofs, how they wouldn’t die by the sword in battle (but rather would die other deaths), and wandering around.
● He asks to be left alone so he could mourn for the calamities without being comforted, namely the breaches of Ir Dovid and the destruction of (the Beis HaMikdash and) Yerushalayim.
● He says that while Hashem proclaimed it a day of crying and eulogy, the nation is eating meat and drinking wine.
● He then prophesies regarding the downfall of Shevna who was a traitorous official (in Chizkiyahu’s court).
● He uses different mashalim to describe how Shevna will be destroyed and replaced by Elyakim ben Chilkiyahu.

● Yeshayahu has a Masa regarding “Midbar Yam” that the betrayer will be betrayed and Paras and Madai will invade, particularly during a feast of the king.
The M’forshim identify this prophecy as an additional Masa addressing Bavel.
He says that two riders will come with donkey and camel with chariots and the watchman will proclaim that Bavel and its gods have fallen.
● He then delivers a Masa for Dumah. Rashi, based on the Midrash, identifies Dumah as Edom. Most other M’forshim, according to the plain reading, identify Dumah as descendants of Yishmael.
A watchman says that morning and night are coming and recommends Teshuvah.
● He then delivers a Masa regarding Ba’Rav (Arabia) telling them to give water to the thirsty wanderers and that in one year, their glory will end.
Most M’forshim identify Ba'Rav as inhabitants of Keidar (presumably as opposed to Yishmaelim of Dumah).

Hashem tells Yeshayahu, in his nevuah for Sargon Melech Ashur, to loosen his sackcloth and take off his shoes.
He then says that just as Yeshayahu is unclothed and barefoot, so would Egypt and Kush be exiled by Ashur and be naked and barefoot.
The (Jewish) people will be astounded about what will happen to the nations that they put their faith in for protection from Ashur.

● Yeshayahu laments on behalf of the nations who build up their armies to attack Klal Yisrael, the trampled nation which inspires awe.
● He describes the destruction with a mashal about harvesting vines and speaks about how birds and animals will feast on the corpses of the many armies.
● He then says that the trampled nation which inspires awe will be brought to Tzion.
● Rashi, Radak, Abarbanel, and most other meforshim say this nevuah refers to the Ultimate Redemption and the war against Gog U’Magog, but Ibn Ezra holds it refers to the miraculous defeat of Ashur.
