● Yaravam is summoned from hiding in Egypt by the K’hal Yisrael to approach Rechavam at his coronation ceremony in Shechem to demand that Rechavam lower of the taxes levied by his father Shlomo.
● Rechavam asks for three days to decide and asks Shlomo’s elders for advice.
● They tell him to submit to the people so that they will accept him as king but he ignores their advice and asks younger people for advice and they tell him to rule with force and tell them he will be even harsher than his father.
● He accepts their advice and Yisrael responds by splitting away from the Beis Dovid, but those of Yehudah accept Rechavam’s reign.
● Rechavam sends his tax collector Adoram to Yisrael and the Jews of Yisrael stone him to death, causing Rechavam to flee for his life to Yerushalayim.
● Rechavam gathers 180,000 soldiers from Yehudah and Binyamin to battle Yaravam but Shmayah HaNavi tells him b’sheim Hashem not to and he obeys.
● Yaravam expresses concern that Aliyah L’Regel will result in Yisrael turning back to Rechavam so he makes two golden calves (to be visited instead), one in Beis Eil and the other in Dan, a house of bamos, Yisraeli priests, and a special holiday on the 15th of Cheshvan.
● On the holiday, he brought the korbanos and ketores.

● In addition to Bas Paroh, Shlomo loves and takes 700 wives and 300 concubines, many of whom were from Moav, Amon, Edom, Tzidon, and Cheis, despite Hashem’s prohibition and warning to Klal Yisrael that marrying nachrios will turn one’s heart towards idolatry.
● In his old age, they indeed “sway his heart towards idolatry” and didn’t live up to his father’s standard. He even builds bamos for his wives to do their avodah zarah so Hashem tells Shlomo that He will split the kingdom and give just one tribe to Shlomo’s family, but He will wait until after Shlomo dies for the sake of Dovid and Yerushalayim.
● Hashem stirs up antagonists against Shlomo, first Hadad the Edomi (who escaped Yoav many years earlier, fled to Egypt, and married Paroh’s sister) and then R’zon of Eliada (an escaped slave who captained an army that was defeated by Dovid). They antagonize Shlomo for the duration of his reign.
● Yaravam ben Nevat of Ephraim, a man whom he had appointed as the tax collector over the Beis Yosef, complains against Shlomo’s sealing of the breach in Milo which Dovid had left open (for pilgrims to the Beis HaMikdash).
● Yaravam is told in privacy by the navi Achiyah HaShiloni that Hashem will give him rulership over 10 of the tribes as a consequence for Shlomo’s actions and he tears Yaravam’s robe into 12 pieces, giving him 10 to symbolize it. He then promises him that if he keeps the mitzvos as Dovid did, his reign will endure.
● Shlomo seeks to kill Yaravam but he takes refuge in Egypt with Shishak the king until Shlomo dies.
● Shlomo dies after reigning for 40 years and is buried in Ir David and is succeeded by his son Rechavam

The Queen of Sh’va comes to visit Shlomo in order to test his wisdom.
She asks him many riddles and he answers them all leaving her blown away by his wisdom as well as the majesty of his palace and the organization of his court.
She then blesses him and Israel and gives him a massive amount of gold and spices.
Shlomo sends her off with gifts as well and she returns, with her servants, to Sh’va.
Shlomo makes a tremendous amount of gold that year. He builds a magnificent, one-of-a-kind throne of ivory with 12 golden lions on six steps.
Shlomo’s vessels are made of gold because silver isn’t worth much and Chiram’s fleet brings in gold, silver, ivory, monkeys, and peacocks.
Everyone would bring gifts to Shlomo to hear his wisdom.
Shlomo has a tremendous amount of horses imported from Egypt.

● Shlomo gathers the nation and the Kohanim and Leviim bring the Aron and other keilim from the Mishkan to the Beis HaMikdash.
● As soon as the Kohanim exit the Kodesh, a cloud descends upon the Beis HaMikdash.
● Shlomo declares that it was originally Dovid’s plan to build the Beis HaMikdash and Hashem didn’t let him but He kept His promise to allow Dovid’s son to do so.
● Shlomo then davens on behalf the Malchus Beis Dovid, that Hashem answer the tefilos of Klal Yisrael, that He vindicate the righteous, send rain, grant the prayers of the goyim who come to the Beis HaMikdash, help Klal Yisrael in war, and accept their Teshuvah.
● Shlomo then blesses the Bnei Yisrael and brings tens of thousands of korbanos throughout the whole Chatzeir as part of the Chanukas HaBayis. Shlomo then makes a seven-day celebration for the whole nation followed by a seven-day celebration (of Succos) and on the 8th day, he sends them home and they ultimately go home happy appreciating the good Hashem had done for Dovid and Yisrael.

After building the Beis HaMikdash, Shlomo builds his own palace over the span of 13 years which consists of the Beis Yaar HaLvanon, the Ulam HaKisei (where he would judge), and his residential quarters, the last of which had an identical palace made as well for Paroh’s daughter.
After discussing many of the details of the palace’s size and majesty, the Navi returns to the construction of the Beis HaMikdash.
Shlomo sends for a skilled artisan from Naftali named Chiram of Tzor and he makes Yachin and Boaz, the two pillars which are erected at the right and left of the hall of the Heichal.
The Navi discusses in detail the construction of the Yam Shel Shlomo and its twelve-copper-oxen base, the ten smaller Kiyoros on wheels, the many keilim (bowls, shovels, etc.), the (ten) Shulchan(os) and ten Menoros, the instruments, etc.
Upon completion of the Beis HaMikdash, Shlomo takes the keilim of Dovid and stores them in its treasury.
