Tziva comes with donkeys with food and drink to support Dovid and his men and when Dovid asks about M’fiboshes’ whereabouts, Tziva tells him that M’fiboshes didn’t come because he was looking forward to his (grand)father’s kingdom being restored.
Dovid responds by giving M’fiboshes’ possessions to Tziva.
Dovid and his men head to Bachurim and Shimi ben Geira of Beis Shaul curses Dovid and his men and pelts them with stones.
He tells Dovid that he is being punished for the bloodshed of Beis Shaul.
Avishai threatens to kill Shimi but Dovid stops him and Shimi continues his antics until Dovid and his men get into Bachurim to rest.
Meanwhile, Chushai convincingly pledges false allegiance to Avshalom.
Achitofel advises Avshalom to consort with Dovid’s concubines in public so he does so in a tent on the roof of the palace.

• Avshalom undermines Dovid’s judicial rulings and uses his charisma to build a following.
• He travels to Chevron in order to start his rebellion claiming that he is paying vows to Hashem.
• He plants people to chant that he had become king of Chevron when shofros are blown and his innocent entourage falls for it.
• Achisofel HaGiloni, Dovid’s advisor, joins Avshalom only strengthening Avshalom’s support.
• A magid tells Dovid about the conspiracy and powerful backing of Avshalom so Dovid chooses to flee instead of making all of Israel go to war and his servants and family, minus ten concubines, join him.
• Dovid tells Itai HaGiti that he shouldn’t have to go with Dovid but Itai insists so Dovid allows him and all his men to join them.
• Tzadok, Aviasar, and the Leviim bring the Aron to Dovid but he tells them to take it back and says he accepts whatever Hashem decides.
• He then tells Tzadok (and Aviasar) to go back to Yerushalayim with their sons Achimaatz and Yehonasan (who would deliver messages to him when necessary) and they do.
• Dovid and his men mourn and when Dovid is informed that Achitofel joined Avshalom, he davens that Hashem should confound his advice.
• Dovid asks Chushai HaArki to be a spy in Yerushalayim and help overcome Achitofel’s advice and Chushai agrees.

● Yoav realizes that Dovid's "heart" is focused on Avshalom so he gets a woman from T’koa to play a certain role to send Dovid a message.
The woman claims that she is a widow and that one of her sons killed the other. She further claims that the other family members want to kill her remaining son. She begs Dovid for help and Dovid tells her that she can leave and he will do something about it. The woman insists on confirmation of his assistance and he guarantees it.
She then, with his permission, explains that her case was really a mashal to get Dovid to take Avshalom back. Upon pressuring her, she admits that Yoav put her up to it.
● Dovid tells Yoav to bring Avshalom back to Yerushalayim but not to let him see him (Dovid) and Yoav does so. The Navi describes Avshalom’s beauty and outstanding hair.
● After two years of living in Yerushalayim and not seeing Dovid, Avshalom sends for Yoav twice, being refused each time. He then sets Yoav’s field on fire to get his attention and he convinces Yoav to present him to Dovid.
● When Yoav presents Avshalom to Dovid, Avshalom bows and Dovid kisses him.

Amnon ben Dovid intensely desires his (half-)sister Tamar, (full-)sister of Avshalom.
His cousin, Yonadav, suggests that he feign illness and ask for Tamar to bring him food, so he does.
Dovid sends Tamar to Amnon and she prepares him food but he refuses to eat.
He sends everyone out and tells her to come close and bring it and when she does, he grabs her and violates her, despite her arguments and pleas.
Amnon immediately develops a hatred for her and sends her out but she begs him not to do worse than what he had done by sending her away but he has her sent out anyway so she tears her tunic, puts ashes on her head, and cries.
Avshalom consoles Tamar and takes her into his house.
Dovid finds out and is upset and Avshalom hates Amnon but doesn’t say a word to him.
Two years later, Avshalom make a feast for his sheep shearing and first invites Dovid but when Dovid politely rejects the offer, he asks for Amnon to come instead.
Dovid sends Amnon and his other sons and Avshalom instructs his servants to kill Amnon once he’s tipsy.
They kill Amnon, and Dovid’s other sons, assuming they are next, flee for their lives.
While Avshalom stays with Talmai ben Amihud Melech G’shur, Dovid mourns for Amnon.
After three years. Dovid is consoled over Amnon’s death and desperately wants to see Avshalom.

● Dovid sees a woman named Bas-Sheva bathing and, after asking who she is and confirming that she’s the wife of Uriah HaChiti, he has her brought to him, has relations with her, and sends her home.
● When she informs him that she is pregnant, he has her husband Uriah called back from war and instructs him to go home and be with his wife.
● Out of respect to his commanders and comrades, Uriah disobeys Dovid’s orders.

Indeed, Yoav puts Uriah on the frontline causing him to be killed with others and Yoav sends a “secret” message back with an unsuspecting soldier letting Dovid know that Uriah had been killed.
● Dovid sends a message back telling Yoav not to feel bad as people always die in war and that he should keep up the battle.
● When Bas-Sheva finds out that Uriah died, she mourns and after the mourning, Dovid marries Bas-Sheva and she gives birth to their child and the whole story was evil in Hashem’s eyes.

Dovid asks Nasan HaNavi if he can build a house for Hashem and Nasan tells him he can but Hashem tells Nasan that night otherwise.
Hashem tells Nasan to tell Dovid that He doesn’t want a Beis HaMikdash (yet) and that Dovid will not be the one to build it but he will be blessed to have an eternal dynasty and his son will build the Beis HaMikdash.
Nasan delivers the message to Dovid and Dovid thanks Hashem profusely, praises Him at length, and prays that He uphold His word regarding his dynasty and the nation at large.
