    ● After leaving King Shaul, Dovid decides to leave Eretz Yisrael for safety and goes to King Achish of Gas.

    ● Dovid lives in the royal city with King Achish as Achish wanted to keep an eye on Dovid.

    ● Dovid pledges allegiance to Achish and asks for a plot of land to live in. Achish gives Dovid and 600 men the place of Tziklag to live in.

    ● Dovid used this a pretense to wipe out the nations of Amalek, G'shuri and Gizri/Grizi (Abarbanel – These were enemies of King Achish and therefore Achish permitted them to be killed.)

    ● Dovid would tell King Achash he went to war against certain parts of Eretz Yisrael as a way to gain the trust of Achish. Achish thinks that Dovid is loyal to him.

The Zifim tell Shaul where Dovid is hiding so Shaul pursues.

When Shaul and his men camp out for the night, Hashem puts a deep sleep over them and Dovid and Avishai ben Tzruiah are able to sneak to the center of the camp right next to Shaul.

Dovid doesn’t allow Avishai to kill Shaul and rather takes his spear and water and climbs to a mountaintop and yells down at Avner ben Ner, Shaul’s commander, waking him up and tells him that he deserves to die for not protecting the king properly as he shows the spear and the water.

Shaul recognizes Dovid and Dovid tells him that he didn’t do anything wrong, the pursuit was a waste of Shaul’s time, and it’s frustrating because he’s being kept away from the Nachalah of Hashem.

Shaul admits that he had been foolish and erred greatly and promises not to harm Dovid.

Dovid returns the spear through an attendant and Shaul blesses him before they go their separate ways.

Dovid asks Yonasan what he did wrong that Shaul wants to kill him and Yonasan says nothing and that when his father tells him he wants to kill Dovid, Yonasan will tell Dovid.

Dovid tells Yonasan he won’t tell him so he suggests that he leave for Rosh Chodesh and the next couple of days and ask Yonasan how he responds to the absence.

Yonasan makes Dovid swear that he will make a covenant between their families and never withhold kindness from his children, and he does.

Yonasan makes a sign which will indicate to Dovid whether or not he should stick around.

The day after Rosh Chodesh, Shaul asks where Dovid is and when he tells him he went home to Beis Lechem for a feast, Shaul angrily rebukes Yonasan for picking sides and demands he send him Dovid.

When Yonasan challenges him asking what Dovid has done wrong, Shaul throws a spear at Yonasan.

Yonasan goes to tell Dovid what happened through the sign they discussed; he shoots arrows and tells his attendant to fetch the arrows which were beyond him, indicating that Dovid needs to escape.

Yonasan dismisses the attendant and Dovid comes out of hiding and bows before Yonasan.

They kiss and cry on each other and part ways, but not before Yonasan reminds him of the covenant.
