The Pelishtim assemble an army and station themselves to attack the Bnei Yisrael.

Galyas the giant Pelishti issues an open challenge to any Jew to fight him in a one-on-one, taunting the Jews twice a day every day for 40 days.

Yishai sends Dovid to send food and check in on his three older brothers who are in the army where he hears about Galyas and entertains the thought of fighting him but is reprimanded by his older brother Eliav.

He defends himself and continues to entertain the thought until he is brought before Shaul and tells him that he is confident that, with G-d’s help, he will be able to defeat Galyas just as he had fought off a lion and bear in the past while watching his flock.

Shaul wishes him success and sends him out to Galyas.

Dovid approaches Galyas and after telling Galyas that he was coming with sheim Hashem, he slingshots a stone at Galyas taking him down and he then cuts off his head.

The Pelishitim all run in fear and the Jews pursue and kill them.

Avner brings Dovid to Shaul and he “introduces himself.”
