Joe Wagner is the son and you should know him from Meiomi wines which he founded and sold for 1/3 of a billion dollars. The entire Wagner family is involved in wine and has very successful brands.The Elouan Oregon Chardonnay 2020 is sourced from coastal vineyards along Oregon's Pacific Coast. The northern coast is the coolest region and is sometimes too cool to ripen the grapes fully. The central coast is ideal for growing Chardonnay, and the southern section is a little warmer and produces ripe grapes. Add those three regions together and you have an interesting, complex wine.The grapes were pressed in whole clusters meaning that the stems and the grapes were pressed together. This method is thought to add flavor and structure to the wine and is a technique usually found in high-end wines.The Elouan Oregon Chardonnay 2020 was French oak barrel fermented, with no stainless steel used. 50% of the oak barrels were new first-use barrels and the Chardonnay was aged in barrels for 14 months.This Chardonnay underwent full malolactic fermentation. That is a process where the natural tart acid in the grapes is converted to a more rounded acid. This is done to all Red wines and used with Chardonnay and a couple of other White grapes. The alcohol content is 14.3%. This is a wine I found on sale for $12.99.The Elouan Oregon Chardonnay 2020 Tasting NotesThe color is pale gold with a slight green tint. The nose is expressive, and there is lemon, green apple, melon, peach, pear, tropical fruit, and a light floral scent. The Elouan Oregon Chardonnay 2020 is medium-bodied and full-flavored.This Chardonnay tastes like a stew of apple, lemon, peach, and vanilla, followed by lime and a little butter. The mid-palate adds exotic spice, guava, and nectarine.
