Finding Joy in Your Home

Cheering for your husband (for a closer marriage) – Hf #112

Listen Later

One big thing in my marriage that I've been wanting to be better at, is being my husband's cheerleader! Coming alongside him, encouraging him, cheering him on, and being a godly wife who will help him focus on God more in his days.

I hadn't ever thought of my self as Jason's cheerleader until I read a great book called When a Women Inspires Her Husband. So our talk today is going to be based on this topic of forming a closer marriage by becoming your husband's cheerleader!

Cherishing My Husband More
If I'm honest, in the busyness of life, I don't cherish and love my husband the way that I should. Sure, he sins. Yes, he messes up. And no, he doesn't always respond rightly.

After you say "I Do", we all go through this awakening period where we realize that marriage is going to be a whole lot harder than we thought it was going to be. We fight, we tear each other down, and we both sin. A lot.

But I also want a marriage that is focused on Christ. I want a marriage where we can laugh, and talk, and play board games together. And I want a marriage where my husband trusts in me and my heart.

This ideal is obviously not always easy to come by or it might seem impossible for some. But learning to love my husband more and becoming his cheerleader can make a huge difference! This is a topic that I have to revisit again and again.

Because the stresses of life like to come in and choke out my joy, choke out my resolve to love and respect my husband, and choke out my determination to be a godly wife.

So today we are going to talk about how we can all learn to be our husband's cheerleaders a little bit more. Here's what Cindi says about that term, "He needs a No. 1 fan to cheer him on, support him, encourage him, and believe in him even when he isn't too sure if he believes in himself. And ladies, that No. 1 fan of your husband needs to be you." - When a Woman Inspires Her Husband

We all know that being a loving and supportive wife like this doesn't happen overnight, so how can we practically become cheerleaders for our husbands? Cindi shares 5 points through her acronym CHEER.

C - Come Alongside Him

Back in Genesis 2, woman was created so that man wouldn't be alone. We are created for companionship, for being best friends, for comingalongsidee to help and encourage!

Woman was created so that Adam didn't have to live alone and so that he would have the help he needed in ruling the earth!

H - Help Him Look Good...Always

Okay this is one that I know I need to work on!!

I would hate if we was constantly correcting me in front of others, etc so I want to make sure to show him that same love. But sadly, women tend to do this a lot!

E - Encourage Him Personally

I want to specifically point out and mention the things he does and how I'm thankful for him. I want him to thank me for doing the dishes and keeping up on the house, why wouldn't he want the same recognition when he spends his saturday working on the van, or sweeping the sidewalk?

Elye Fitzpatrick wrote, "I know it's easy to forget, but a wife, because of her nearness, is usually the most powerful human influence in her husband's life."

E - Elevate Him in Front of Others
