God has established truth and love together. They don’t exist apart. God has established a standard, and He does not shift. The standard is established in truth and in love. Love and truth exist in perfect harmony together. As Christians, we have to live our lives differently. Our willingness and discipline to operate within truth and love matters. Truth is who Christ is, and He does not change. God is love, and God does not change. God’s standard is that He has set it in truth and love, and we ought to live, speak, and operate within it. According to the Scripture, it is deep within your soul to wrestle with what is right and wrong because that is how God created you. Satan simply wants to reprogram the way God has made us. He wants God’s creation to rebel against Him instead of surrendering to Him. That’s the enemy’s plan. That’s the enemy’s attack on Truth. The attack on Truth all began in the Garden of Eden when Satan came as a serpent to Eve and began to question the Truth. When Adam and Eve were created, they were given God’s truth and given the standard of how to live. Because of man’s pride, they chose to step outside of God’s standard. Complete chaos ensued. The perfect relationship between God and man was severed, but God provided a way for reconciliation. God established the truth and the standard not to control us but because He loves us. He established the Word as truth. There is a God who loves you, and He wants you to operate inside of His truth and standard out of love. We all have a desire to belong. Since the beginning with Adam and Eve, they even had a desire to belong to God. God designed us to desire to belong. God created us with a God-sized hole in our hearts knowing that only He could fill it. Because of our sin, there is no way we could cover ourselves, so He began His rescue mission through His Son Jesus. God desires for us to belong to Him and to the family of God. If Nehemiah had ended in chapter 12, it would have been like a fairytale ending. However, some time has passed between chapters 12 and 13. By chapter 13, Nehemiah has returned to his former cupbearer job and has requested leave from the king to return to Jerusalem. Upon returning, he finds the people and Jerusalem have turned from God and turned from what had been rebuilt. The people have even housed Tobiah, the one who in Nehemiah 2, was described as one who opposed the work of God, in the temple of the Lord. This has hindered the work of God. Similarly, just as the people had housed a hindrance in the temple of the Lord, as followers of Christ, we are now each the temple of the Lord because the presence of God resides in us. What is our Tobiah? What is the sin that is in our life that hinders us from accomplishing the work of God?
