Eddie “The Eagle” Belfour spent the first 8 seasons of his Hall of Fame career with the Blackhawks. Belfour burst onto the scene as a rookie in 1990, winning 43 games and the Calder Trophy as the league’s Rookie of the Year. Belfour followed that season up by helping the Blackhawks reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in 19 years. Belfour ranks fourth in Blackhawks history with 201 wins and 4th in shutouts with 30. He would later win a Stanley Cup title with Dallas.

Ryan Donato came to the Blackhawks as an NHL journeyman after making stops with 4 different NHL teams in 6 seasons.. A dependable and hardworking player, Donato saw it all come together for him last season, tallying career highs all across the board and leading the Blackhawks in goals (31) and was 2nd in points (62). Donato credits his breakout to his strong faith and his hard working approach to the game. Donato has found a home in Chicago, signing a 4-year extension this offseason.

Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1975 and named as one of the NHL’s greatest players in 2017, “Mr. Goalie” Glenn Hall, was one of the best ever between the pipes and played for the Blackhawks between 1957 and 1967. Hall was one of the first goaltenders to use the butterfly style of goalkeeping. And he never used a goaltending mask or headgear until late in his career. Hall’s #1 jersey is retired by the Blackhawks.

Today we’re profiling Brandon Saad, who became a mainstay in the Blackhawks lineup from 2012-2015, and was a vital piece to the 2013 and 2015 Stanley Cup Champion teams. Saad was traded to Columbus in 2015 but was reacquired in 2017, spending 3 more seasons with the Blackhawks before he was traded once again in 2020 to Colorado. Saad will always be remembered for his role in bringing home 2 Stanley Cups to Chicago.

Today we’re profiling Hall of Fame goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, whose time with the Blackhawks was brief, but impactful. He notably earned his 500th career NHL win in a Blackhawks sweater — a 27-save shutout — on December 9, 2021, in his hometown of Montreal, becoming just the third goaltender in league history to hit that milestone.

As the Blackhawks #1 draft pick in 1988, Jeremy Roenick became a household name in Chicago. Roenick scored 50 goals in back-to-back seasons, with 53 in 1991, and 50 in 1992. His only three 100-point seasons came with the Hawks. After 8 seasons, he was dealt to the Phoenix Coyotes where he played the next 6 years. Roenick scored 267 of his 513 career goals in a Blackhawks sweater and he ranks 4th on the list of all-time American born scorers.

His nickname alone is instantly recognizable, “The Golden Jet”.  Bobby Hull electrified Chicago Stadium during his 15 years with the Blackhawks.  He scored 604 goals, still the most in Hawks history, reaching the 50-goal mark 5 times. In 1972, Hull jumped to the upstart World Hockey Association’s Winnipeg Jets, becoming one of hockey’s first millionaires. In his later years, Hull mended fences with the Hawks, and returned as a Team Ambassador. He died in 2023.

Frank Nazar was the 13th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, selected by the Blackhawks. The Michigan product showed his offensive upside scoring his first career NHL goal in his first NHL game on April 14th, 2024. Nazar showed plenty of promise in a short time as a pro, highlighted by his performance this summer as the leading scorer on Team USA, helping them win their first World Championship gold medal in 92 years.  Nazar looks to be a key part of the future.

Dale Tallon has seen it all in more than a half-century in the NHL as a player, broadcaster and executive. Three years after being drafted 2nd overall by Vancouver, Tallon was traded to the Blackhawks where he spent 5 of his 10 NHL seasons. He later entered the broadcast booth for the Hawks and then the front office, eventually becoming GM in 2005. He would draft or sign the core of the Blackhawks Stanley Cup teams, including Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa. He was replaced as GM by Stan Bowman, and left to become general manager of the Florida Panthers.
