The Chicks caught up with Louise Milligan about her report on 4 Corners this week – ‘The Silence: AFL’s Last Taboo.
The AFL is the only major sporting code in the world that hasn’t had a single elite male player publicly identify as gay. Louise Milligan investigated the AFL’s culture and asks what has created this silence? The league’s governing body signed a pledge to tackle persistent homophobia a decade ago. But Milligan speaks with players, advocates and supporters who all say the code’s lack of leadership on the issue is baffling.
We asked her about her experience creating the report, more about what she uncovered and more importantly what are the solutions for the AFL moving forward.

Motty and Fi welcomed our guest host Tara Murray to join us in our footy chats this week – she prefers chips over pies or hot dogs.
We had a chat with Louise Milligan, the journalist behind the Four Corners story that aired last Monday night The Silence – AFL’s Last Taboo. It was illuminating, challenging and shed light on the homophobic attitudes that exist within the AFL.
We had all the news of the AFL round plus player retirements, coach appointments, last gasp wins (and losses) and also the big news that the AFLW prizemoney will double to 1.1 million, same as the mens.

Bec is looking for words that rhyme with Cunnington for her next retirement wrap and Sasha had a new segment called the coaches corner and gave us a run down of some of the AFLW coaches for season 2023.
They were all briefly evacuated from the studio but managed to keep the show going under pressure!
