Breaking down the latest in international news and geopolitics. Champion of human rights, Saudi Arabia, is using a nifty little tactic in the war in Yemen. They are recruiting child soldiers from Darfur. Thousands of soldiers from the conflict-ridden Darfur in Sudan have taken up arms to fight the mean old Iran back Houthis. These families have a strong monetary incentive to send their children to war. The going rate per hired soldier is estimated to be about $10,000. These incentives are so strong that families will bribe officials to send as many of their kids over as possible. Nefarious acts like this are exactly the reason why Saudi Arabia is losing the Middle East Cold War against Iran. They have no natural allies and a weak military. These factors make them resort to hiring mercenaries to fight their wars. These mercenaries range from violent extremist, “to moderate rebels”, to child soldiers. On the flip side, Iran has many loyal allies in the Middle East. Despite being economically suppressed by sanctions and having smaller oil reserves, they are able to call upon their clients for support.
