New data from Georgetown University's Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET) shows that China has become the top producer of research in more than half of AI's hottest fields, surpassing the United States. The research reveals that global AI research has more than doubled between 2017 and 2022, with computer vision accounting for 32% of research and experiencing a growth of 121%. Natural language processing comprises 11% of research and grew by 104%. Robotics research, on the other hand, grew at a slower pace, increasing by 54%. China excels in computer vision research, while the US leads in highly cited articles.
