On this episode of China Calling, your host Vlatka will introduce you to Sound of the Xity (SOTX) China's largest music industry conference and music festival that happens every year at the end of April spread out to all major venues and clubs of Beijing.

Join in her in the discovery of new artists who were playing the event, hear an interview with James Minor, the head of the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) who was in town to check on the event and came all the way from Austin, Texas as well as interviews with a Spanish band Holy Bouncer and the young English band Violet Youth, the first band that got signed by the China's largest record label Modernsky Entertainment in the UK. We'll be introducing you to Chinese post-rock bands such as Fazi who are touring Europe, to psychedelic Israeli band Tiny Fingers that are touring China. It is almost time for the annual music festival South by Southwest (SXSW) at Austin, Texas. The 2017 edition will see something more than 500 new acts from all over the world. The US music showcase takes place from March 13-19th this year. On this episode of China Calling, your host Vlatka is taking you on a world music tour and introducing you to bands from Asia to Europe, South and North America who will be performing at SXSW. This week on China Calling - We're following our host Vlatka on a tour around Beijing, discovering new music, meeting China's first and only surf band, and hearing an interview with the British dubstep and rock band Modestep, who flew into China's capital for the second time within a month, to perform at a new venue in the city.

Modstep's video of the new version of their single "Sunlight" was released on YouTube passing 1 million views within four days, also making the Radio 1 A-list and debuting at number 16 in the UK charts. Their second album, "London Road" took them on another successful world tour. We're hearing about their specific recording process and their thoughts on playing in the mainland.

2015 SOTX Fest brought 88 groups of artists worldwide, raging from reggae, rock, world music, electronic, etc. From 28th of April until the 3rd of May, the music conferences, gigs and showcases brought attendants from 21 countries and 6 continents. Vlatka caught up with many European Music Festival promoters who were in the capital looking for new talent for their event and on today's episode you can hear the interview with Steve Symons, the UK Glastonbury Music Festival booker. his week on China Calling Case File : Our host Vlatka is sitting down and chatting with the Libertines who recently rocked Hong Kong Clockenflap Festival.

Libertines the UK band that formed in the early 2000s gained commercial success after their album got voted to Nr 1 in the UK charts. In December 2004, their self-titled second album was voted the second best album of the year by NME magazine. The first two of their full-length LPs were produced by Mick Jones, of the British punk band The Clash.

They rose to the top fast but split even faster. Only 2 albums into it, the band announced their separation and Pete Doherty and Carl Barat went their separate ways. The official statement said that the breakup of the band was due to relationship difficulties between Barat and Doherty and not related to Pete Dohery’s drug addictions. The members of The Libertines went on to form new bands with varying degrees of commercial and critical success.

In August 2010, the four members of The Libertines reunited to play a series of shows, including slots at the 2010 Reading and Leeds Festivals. The reunion shows received a highly positive response from the press and fans and a year ago, the Libertines signed a new record deal, with Virgin EMI Records, and released their third album, Anthems for Doomed Youth on September 11, 2015. The album was recorded and produced in Thailand and our host Vlatka met up with the boys in the band to find out what became of the likely lads!
