Classically linked as the archetype of the 'wounded healer', Chiron's story takes us into an exploration of the interplay between trauma & wisdom, suffering & healing, mentors & mentees, the earthly & the sublime. As a centaur he is half animal half human. As a demi-god he is half mortal half immortal. As a symbol he reminds us of our own dilemma of 'not-quite-this-not-quite-that-ness'.
The child of Saturn (Chronos) & Philyra (the wood nymph), Chiron is abandoned at birth - leading him to become the foster child of Apollo the Sun God. Throughout his childhood and adolescence he's steeped the arts of healing, music, alchemy, prophecy and war. Later he becomes a mentor to other gods such as Hercules, Achilles and Asclepius.
Chiron is also a heavenly body in our solar system. Discovered in 1977, he has a 50 year orbit of the Sun. With his elliptical orbit he traverses between Saturn and Uranus. In some ways then, he is a representation of the healing potential available as Uranian energy continues to shake Saturn's foundations and Saturn keeps upping the levels of control to retaliate.
An alternative to the descent into Us versus Them mentality, Chiron invites us to work with our splits both personally and collectively in creative and life-affirming ways, despite all the pain and suffering (of which Chiron acknowledges, there's a lot).

Also, Michael Meade just announced he'll be doing a short course on The Wounded Healer. Highly recommended.
