Can a corrupt throne be Your ally—one devising mischief by decree? — Psalm 94:20

Jesus tied service to following: if anyone serves Me, let him follow Me. You can't serve Christ on your own terms, writing your own job description. Where the Master is, there the servant will be also. That means following Him into humble places, difficult places, even suffering. But here's the promise: where I am, there My servant will be also.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. — 1 John 1:9

The Christian life is a race, but you don't run it by staring at your feet. You run by looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith. He's not just the starting line and the finish line — He's the power to run the whole race. He endured the cross, despising the shame, for the joy set before Him. When your legs get heavy, don't look at the obstacles; look at the One who's already crossed the finish line for you.

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” — Matthew 20:28

Here is love — not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as the propitiation for our sins. That turns everything upside down. Your love for God is always a response, never the first move. While you were still weak, still a sinner, still an enemy — Christ died for you. Don't look inside for proof that you're loved; look at the cross.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. — Matthew 4:1

This is a hard saying, but it's the testimony of a man who had been schooled by suffering. It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word. Affliction is not God's failure to be good; it's the classroom where He teaches you what you wouldn't learn in comfort. The psalmist didn't thank God for the pain itself, but for what the pain produced — a deeper knowledge of God and His ways.

For Your loving devotion is before my eyes, and I have walked in Your truth. — Psalm 26:3

When some Israelites were unclean at Passover time, they brought their dilemma to Moses, who brought it to the Lord. They didn't presume, they waited on God's word. There's wisdom here: when you don't know what to do, bring it to the Lord and wait for His direction. God provided a second Passover for them — He's never at a loss for how to meet the needs of those who seek Him.

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. — Colossians 4:6

Moses knew that a journey without God's presence was a journey not worth taking. And the Lord replied, 'My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest'. Not just guidance from afar, but His abiding presence every step of the way. Jesus promised the same to His disciples — 'I am with you always'. Whatever road you're on today, you don't walk it alone; the God who gives rest walks with you.

Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but enjoy the company of the lowly. Do not be conceited. — Romans 12:16

Martha was distracted with much serving, but Mary sat at Jesus' feet — and Jesus said Mary had chosen the good portion. One thing is needful, and it's not your to-do list. It's sitting at the feet of Christ and hearing His word. All the busyness in the world can't substitute for the one thing that won't be taken away from you. Don't let the good crowd out the best — the best is Jesus Himself.

And we have come to know and believe the love that God has for us. God is love; whoever abides in love abides in God, and God in him. — 1 John 4:16

God revealed Himself to Israel at Marah as Jehovah-Rapha — the Lord who heals. That's not a blank check for physical healing in every circumstance, but it is a deep truth about His character. He heals broken hearts, binds up wounds, and restores the soul. The ultimate healing came through the stripes of Christ, who bore the sickness of your sin so you could be made whole. Whatever is broken in your life — body, heart, or spirit — He is the Lord who heals.

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate before the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He Himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. — 1 John 2:1,2

Here's the promise that anchors every anxious heart: Jesus gives His sheep eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can snatch them out of His hand — and they're also in the Father's hand. That's a double grip, and neither hand will let go. Your security doesn't rest on how well you're walking today; it rests on the finished work of the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep. If you're in His hand, you're safe.

One of His disciples, the one whom Jesus loved, was reclining at His side. — John 13:23

David commands his own soul to bless the Lord — because sometimes your soul doesn't feel like it. Forget not all His benefits. He forgives all your iniquities and heals all your diseases. He redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with steadfast love and mercy. You have more reasons to give thanks than you have breath to speak them.
