One day Ruth’s mother-in-law Naomi said to her, “My daughter, should I not seek a resting place for you, that it may be well with you? — Ruth 3:1

That’s the question God asks His children. There remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. Jesus says, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28-30).

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you. — JOHN14:16,17

Jesus promised to ask the Father, who would give another Helper to be with us forever — the Spirit of truth. The Spirit isn't a vague force; He's the personal presence of God dwelling in you. He bears witness that you're a child of God. He helps you pray. He pours God's love into your heart.

Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!” — John 11:36

Greater love has no one than this, that He lay down His life for His friends. Jesus wept not because He was powerless but because He was full of compassion. He loves His own to the end. Behold how He loved—not just Lazarus, but you.

For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. — Colossians 3:3

Dead to sin, alive to God. Your true life isn't on display; it's hidden away with Christ in the secret place of the Most High. That means your security doesn't depend on what you can see or feel. Your life is tethered to the risen Christ, who is seated at God's right hand. The world can't touch that.

I opened for my beloved, but he had turned and gone. My heart sank at his departure. I sought him, but did not find him. I called, but he did not answer. — Song of Solomon 5:6

The bride in Song of Songs sought her beloved and couldn't find him. Sometimes you seek the Lord and He seems silent. When Israel sinned with Achan's gold, the Lord said, "I will be with you no more, unless you destroy the devoted things" (Josh. 7:8-12). Your sins can separate you from the sense of His presence.

For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His footsteps: — I Peter 2:21

Christ suffered for you, leaving an example that you should follow in His steps. He didn't come to be served but to serve. When reviled, He didn't revile in return. When crucified, He prayed for His persecutors. Following His steps doesn't mean replicating His atoning work — only He could do that.

You search out my path and my lying down; You are aware of all my ways. — Psalm 139:3

David marveled that God was with him at every moment — when he got up and when he lay down. Jacob woke from his dream and said, "Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it" (Gen. 28:16-17). The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth, not to catch you but to strengthen you. You're never alone.

Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child and nurse him for me, and I will pay your wages.” So the woman took the boy and nursed him. — Exodus 2:9

Pharaoh's daughter hired Moses' own mother to nurse him — and paid her for it. That's a picture of how God works: He gives you back what you thought you'd lost, and He pays you for the privilege of serving Him. Even a cup of cold water given in His name won't lose its reward. You're not working for wages you earn; you're serving a King who rewards grace with more grace.

“To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of the One who holds the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation for being alive, yet you are dead. — Revelation 3

The Laodicean church was called to buy from Christ gold refined in the fire. That gold is genuine faith, tested and proven. Don't be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes. The testing of your faith produces steadfastness, and it's more precious than gold that perishes. The refiner's fire burns away the dross so that only what's real remains.

Pursue peace with everyone, as well as holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. — Hebrews 12:14

That's a sobering word, but it doesn't send you to self-effort. You must be born again to even see the kingdom. Holiness is not something you produce; it's what you're called to in Christ, who chose you before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless. Be holy as He is holy — a command that's also a promise.
