Job displays his firm Christian hope in his reply to Eliphaz. It's not a perfect hope. It's not without faltering. In fact - in some things he says, he betrays Christian hope- But in the end, despite losing every earthly comfort and hope around him, Job remains fixated upon God.

Why are Job's friends so hostile to Job- Why has this debate separated friends- Far more than just a disagreement over circumstances, what we're seeing here is the world's hostility to the message of the cross.

How does genuine faith respond when all the world and the wisdom of the world stand against him- Here we see Job dead-set on going to God and resting his case with God, even if the world stands against him.

Teaching Hour- The apostle continues to talk about sanctification, the motivation for the Christian life, and the role of the Law in such. Now he turns to discuss how the Law 'arouses sin', and what this means in regard to our pursuit of holiness.

If we had to sum up the counsel of Job's friends under one word, a good argument for 'worldliness' could be made. For here, Zophar exemplifies the worldly fool who distorts God's justice and mercy, trusts in his own wisdom despite giving lip-service to God, and calls Job to trust in himself for his own salvation-restoration.

What is so important about the resurrection of Jesus Christ- It is the historical basis for every other Christian doctrine- the historical evidence that all the promises of God are true.

Teaching Hour- If we have died to the Law in order to be married to another -Jesus Christ-, what then is our motivation for righteous living- Where then is the power for Christian living- What then is the role of the law, now that we've been delivered from it as a covenant of works- Here we see that in union Christ, via justification by faith, we have a completely new relationship and allegiance- There is a legal, yet very personal, relationship with Jesus that is just as all-encompassing as marriage- And while the power of sin is the law, ultimately, the law is transformed from a foe to a friend in the Christian life.
