It's now the week leading up to American Thanksgiving, and that means that the bureaucrats who run the U.S. bishops' conference are going to be passing out the CCHD envelopes in parishes all over America this weekend. Don't give them a dime.
For those of you who may not know about the CCHD — the Catholic Campaign for Human Development — it's been a source of scandal for the bishops' conference for decades. It was the brainchild of modernist churchman Cdl. Joseph Bernardin of Chicago back in 1970 and allegedly began in response to the race tensions from the 1960s. The bishops identified that some of the poverty in America among black Americans as owing to racism, so they established what was then called the Campaign for Human Development. It was to raise a few million dollars and then close shop. But like all cash cows, once the bishops saw it generated a few million bucks a year at the annual collection, they kept it going in perpetuity.
It's still going. But along the way, early on, it became a vehicle to fund Saul Alinsky-style community organizing which greatly benefited and still does benefit the Party of Death. If you'd like to know more detail, the first installment of our FBI series — originally called CIA — was on this topic — it's called CCHD and Alinski. It details the history of the campaign and how it became a source for community organizing.
It was at the original airing of this FBI in March of 2010 that we here at Church Militant first began to fall afoul of the U.S. bishops, namely Abp. Charles Chaput, to begin with, who sent us very pointed emails telling us that our reporting these details of the inner workings of the CCHD was "disobedient" and "divisive." He admitted multiple times that there were severe problems with CCHD but that we had overstated those problems. Umm ... no, we didn't. Note to self: Never talk about the money and the backroom deals. We've attached a link to the original episode for you to view yourselves.
And for the record, our FBI episode on the CCHD was in part the basis for the very successful "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" documentary aired on EWTN earlier this year and produced by the splendid father-son team of Richard and Stephen Payne at Arcadia Films. The original name as we said was just the Campaign for Human Development. The word "Catholic" wasn't inserted by the bishops until some years later when it came under withering criticism for doling out millions of dollars to extremely liberal social justice causes — to groups in favor of abortion and gay rights.
Much of this became very public when it was discovered that the CCHD had given around $7 million to ACORN, the scandal-plagued organization that was essentially shut down by Congress for not helping the poor but illegally registering Democratic voters.
The CCHD had been largely overseen until recently by John Carr, a darling of the social justice crowd in the Church, who held a key post in the Jimmy Carter White House. Carr served as the executive director of the White House Conference on Families, a group that spent a lot of time trying to get increased traction for abortion, contraception and acceptance of homosexuality at various dog and pony show hearings around the country.
During and after Carr's departure, a man by the name of Ralph McCloud was the hands-on man who ran and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the campaign. McCloud was also the honorary finance chair for Texas State Senator Wendy Davis, a Democrat who you may remember as staging an 11-hour filibuster to kill pro-life legislation. So radical is her support for abortion that she earned the nickname, "Abortion Barbie," and recall, the man running the Catholic Campaign for Human Development was her honorary finance chair during her political campaign.
There is no way Catholic dollars should be going to the allegedly Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Over the decades, the money has been given to all sorts of groups that support abortion, contraception, homosexuality, Planned Parenthood, illegal immigration and so forth — the whole smorgasbord of the pet causes of the Party of Death.
Numerous attempts by numerous Catholic laity who have done their homework on this specific topic for years have been made to talk to bishops privately and publicly. Occasionally, a bishop here or there listens and drops the collection from his diocese, but the overwhelming majority in solidarity with the mind-numbing agitprop from the political Left still raid parishes and ask the faithful to donate millions of dollars in the name of fighting poverty when it's really used for the promotion of a political leftist agenda. They, of course, deny this when, on the rare occasion, they actually address the substance — but the facts are the facts.
It was founded as a fundraising mechanism to increase voter rolls for the Party of Death. It has continued to do that for going on 50 years, and it will continue to do that until everyone who runs it is no longer in charge. It is part and parcel of the liberal leftist bureaucracy which runs the bishops' conference and has ever since it was established back in 1966 by one of the most liberal modernist bishops in American history — Detroit's own Cdl. John Dearden, who hand-picked Joseph Bernardin to be his successor.
Save your money for the local pro-life cause and do not put a red cent into the basket for this Party of Death financing arm. In most American parishes, you'll see the envelopes this coming weekend. Ignore them and give your money to an authentic Catholic cause, not a Saul Alinsky-inspired program that paid for Barack Obama to learn how to do community organizing in Chicago in the 1980s.
Haven't we been deceived enough?

What puzzles so many faithful Catholics these days about the bishops is why they always seem to be on board with the talking points of the Left and yet barely raise their collective voices in matters of Church teaching. The distinction that many people including a majority of Catholics fail to make is that there is a distinction to be made between types of issues, and as you've heard here many times before, the Catholic mind is the mind which makes distinctions.
There are really two tiers of evils that we are speaking of. There are intrinsic evils and then, evils which are not intrinsically so. Intrinsic means that something by its very nature — the what of what it is — is always evil, everywhere, for everyone, under every circumstance — think, for example, abortion or contraception or homosexual acts or adultery or stealing or cheating. Justice and charity are each gravely offended against when these intrinsic evils are chosen — always.
Then, there are other actions or circumstances which are not intrinsically evil, not inherently evil, but from which evil could arise depending on the circumstances — think, for example, the death penalty, reasonable gun control, immigration policies, proper care for the environment, smoking, poverty. Good people can reasonably disagree over how to lessen the evil that might arise from bad prudential choices in these areas, but they are not intrinsically evil. And they are not intrinsically evil because there are competing rights and virtues at play.
There are never competing rights at play when it comes to murder such as abortion because the right of the child to live supersedes any other claim to a right by anyone else. Back in the 1980s, Cdl. Joseph Bernardin of Chicago began conflating these two sets — mixing in intrinsic evil with non-intrinsic evils — saying in effect all of these are bad so we need to fight against all of them consistently. It eventually came to be called the "seamless garment" approach, meaning everything was the same, and we had to treat everything the same. He obliterated the distinction between intrinsic and non-intrinsic evils, and in so doing, he gave perfect cover to Leftist politicians who wanted to virtue signal in areas of poverty or climate change or immigration or the death penalty.
This new political reasoning was picked up on by the Democratic Party because of its support of sexual immorality and child murder. One by one, Catholic politicians everywhere started hiding behind this fakery to push for abortion, and they still are claiming to be good Catholics because they were against poverty or climate change. But, and it's a very big but, they couldn't do this without the constant yammering on of the bishops who still breathe life into this fake theology.
Abortion does not equate to being unemployed. Yet, in the calculus of many U.S. bishops, they do. Following the release of the Planned Parenthood videos showing the abortion giant trafficking in baby parts for profit, Cdl. Blase Cupich of Chicago said we should be appalled by that horror, but (there's always a "but" with the modernists) we should be no less appalled with joblessness. Is he out of his mind or is he crazy like a fox? The smart money is on the second choice.
Cupich and many other bishops continue to cling to the deeply flawed philosophy of his predecessor in Chicago, Cdl. Bernardin, that everything bad should be treated equally. They don't make the necessary distinctions as their office of bishop demands them to. How can carving up a child in the womb and sucking out the pieces through a vacuum cleaner be even remotely compared to a person not having job? But in the twisted minds of the modernist crowd, it's all the same.
And this brings us right back to the bishops as a whole, who just wrapped up their semi-annual meeting. They have taken the non-intrinsic evils — poverty, immigration, gun violence, the death penalty, climate change and so forth — and championed these over their duty to fight against the intrinsic evils of abortion, contraception, homosexual acts, adultery etc. Oh sure, you can look through their home page and find some official looking statement buried somewhere about each of these intrinsic evils — just to keep up appearances. But you will be overwhelmed by the flood of statements about the non-intrinsic evils, and it just so happens that those same evils are the talking points of the Party of Death from which the bishops collect a good amount of money in the form of grants.
Speaking as a whole, the U.S. bishops' conference is a tool for presenting these talking points as Church teaching when they are not. The death penalty is not against Church teaching. In fact, it is supported. There is no Church teaching stating that the public should not have guns. In fact, the right to defend yourself and the duty to defend others is supported. There is no teaching saying that illegal immigrants should be given free access to a country and that borders don't have to be respected. In fact, it says just the opposite. There is no teaching saying that climate change is caused by man and needs to be fought against with government policy. No one knows why the earth's temperature fluctuates and consequently, there is no teaching at all other than to generally care for creation. But to hear a good number of bishops go on, you would think the Church has declared definitively on all of these, and if you are a good Catholic you need to be pro-illegal immigration, pro-gun control, anti-death penalty and pro-man made climate change.
The Church is being used or better said abused by leaders who are trying to trick people into thinking that their opinions are Church teaching. None of that is Church teaching, and it's not even close. Yet abortion, contraception, homosexual acts and so forth are matters of defined Church teaching, and yet, we never hear a peep on these topics or what we do hear is so little and far apart that it's fallen into the realm of insignificance. Even when they might grudgingly give a tip of the hat to Church teaching on abortion — before the sentence is over — they have switched gears as in "yes, abortion is not good but man, oh man, can you believe the earth temperature climbed one one-hundredth of one degree the last sixty years?"
As the esteemed Alice von Hildebrand told Church Militant, the Church has been infiltrated. Those who did the infiltrating raised up disciples for themselves and their wicked agenda and now these men are in control in large portions of the Church. Their agenda is to water down Catholic moral teaching — first, by lowering it to the level of teaching on non-intrinsic evils, then by ignoring the moral teachings and then by actually denying them all together like James Martin of the Jesuits does with the cover he is provided by socialist bishops like Tobin of Newark, New Jersey, and Cupich of Chicago.
Committed Catholics must educate themselves in all of this and resist it. Fight like Heaven against this. The Church is being co-opted under the guise of doing good and slowly converted into an arm of the socialist engineers, and in many, many places, this has already happened. Shame on the bishops who have either directly engineered this or on those who refuse to confront it out of fear of losing their career status.
Your careers won't mean anything when you die except increased pains in Hell if you don't repent.

The world today is in great tumult. Everyone senses it, even if most Westerners choose to sleepwalk through these momentous times, enraptured in their various forms of entertainment and materialism, ignoring the willful destruction of their entire civilization and its replacement by a new world order — a globalist, elitist, atheistic vision of man that has gotten up from the mat after its surprise mauling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
In the days after Donald Trump's election, leftist forces in America began forming a resistance movement against his agenda. That movement, fueled by funds from socialist elites both in the United States and around the world, has taken on impressive dimensions. Much of this is supported by heterodox Catholic clergy and laity. The liberal chaos that has invaded the culture and is played out each day in the halls of government and on the streets has also been brought into the Catholic Church by these same Churchmen.
It's simply two aspects of the same mindset. But what goes on in the Catholic Church is ultimately of greater importance than what occurs in politics because what many in the culture don't understand is as the Catholic Church goes, so goes civilization. Concerned Catholics must begin to recognize and respond to a phenomenon that has never existed before in the Church, at least on this kind of scale. The Left has two distinct aspects to it: political and theological. In other words, there are individuals, many of them extremely influential who have essentially the same worldview but operate in their distinctive arenas of the political and the theological.
This is why there seems to be so much attention in the Church these days from prominent Churchmen about what are normally political matters. The large ones are the death penalty, so-called man-made climate change, illegal immigration, and government programs to address poverty. Of course, there are moral dimensions to these issues, but for the most part. these are properly addressed in the arena of the political. They are political problems and, as such, need a political solution. But the theological Left has shrouded these issues as moral issues and brought them into the arena of the theological and, from that point onward, made them issues that need theological discussion and preaching and addressing.
Likewise, the political Left has moved into the arena of what should be strictly considered theological/moral and co-opted various issues and given them a political stamp: abortion, contraception funding, the acceptance of homosexuality and same-sex marriage, euthanasia, doctor-assisted suicide. These issues are not primarily political, just as immigration and so-called man-made climate change are not primarily theological. But the overlapping of the two worlds has created an intertwining where such distinctions are lost. What is political is now theological, and what is theological is now political.
This serpentine intertwining of the two distinct arenas is being tremendously exploited by Catholic clergy who wish to institute sexual immorality as acceptable in the Church, likewise with politicians who wish to advance their globalism as one that has a theological foundation. They have made great strides, representatives from both camps, in joining forces to bring about a new world order, a globalist view that will exclude God and the authentic teachings of His Catholic Church — public enemy number one for this worldview.
They have a wide assortment of weapons in their arsenal to bring all this about. These weapons have been so effective in being instrumentalized for their goal that they are now within one generation of achieving all they've aimed for, and they have achieved their goals through their major weapon — media, traditional and social. All of this has worked so effectively in the Church because the laity has forgotten the role of the Church and their goal as Catholics and that is to become saints — to achieve holiness.
So many Catholic clergy are all in on this evil of globalization that they have knocked regular Catholics off course — off the road to holiness and turned the Church into a giant social agency. This is why we have written our next book, appropriately entitled Resistance: Fighting the Devil Within. We deliberately left out the object of "within" so that it could be taken in more than one way — within myself and within the Church.
Fighting the devil within the culture while laudable and necessary will never achieve a lasting victory because humans cannot defeat an angel. What defeats angels are other angels. If Catholics see the battle for the culture largely in political terms then it is already lost. The fight must be brought to Satan where he has ensconced himself in the Church. It is precisely because he has been able to lodge himself so well in the Church these past decades that he is accomplishing so much in the culture. The only institution capable of defeating him has been infiltrated and compromised.
The Church has been neutralized — paralyzed — because of the confusion which has been promoted by dissidents and heretics and schismatics for decades now, even further back in some cases. The Church must be won back by men and women desirous of becoming holy. God needs saints which means various clergy must be stood up against and shouted down by faithful committed educated Catholics, who will not let them go by unchallenged. The formula is really rather simple — personal holiness leads to a reform of the Church, leads to a reform of the culture.
We cover it all in Resistance, which Catholics everywhere concerned about the state of the world need to read. Evil advances in the world because the Church becomes neutralized and goes on the defensive. The Church goes on the defensive because people in it abandon the call to holiness. Resistance covers both aspects and presents it against the backdrop of the insanity taking place now, becoming normalized, in the world.

The archdiocese of New York is a stinking mess of homosexual intrigue and cover up and collusion. Gay clergy are covering for each other while parishioners are being ripped off — ripped off not just of their faith but also of their money. As you may know, Church Militant has been following the scandalous case of the New York archdiocese and Fr. Peter Miqueli who carried on for years, according to multiple witnesses with a gay-for-pay prostitute named Keith Crist. Last month, the Bronx D.A. said that Miqueli had, in fact, stolen more than $22,000 from the Bronx parish of St. Frances de Chantel, and the archdiocese agreed to pay the money back to the parish. But in an appalling letter to the parishioners, Auxiliary Bp. Gerald Walsh then declared that the matter was closed and nothing of the massive sexual evils could be substantiated. So, that was that.
There are so many layers to this story, it's hard to know where exactly to begin. But let's begin with the reaction of the aggrieved parishioners who are stunned that the Bronx D.A. Darcel Clark concluded it was just $22,000 Miqueli had embezzled and that even that amount was sufficient to levy a charge of grand larceny against the priest and that she declined to do so. They smell a rat and say so in their letter, which they sent to the pope, the nuncio, Cdl. Timothy Dolan and everyone else and their mother and brother.
They feel bad enough being hoodwinked and ripped off and swindled by the homosexual priest who used the money to maintain a years-long relationship with a gay-for-pay prostitute, but now they feel even more abused by the hierarchy of New York that was all too willing to get this case off the front pages of the New York dailies.
There are actually two different cases here — both addressed insufficiently and insultingly by Walsh in his letter to parishioners. The first involves the criminal aspect, and there are some very serious questions here. How could D.A. Clark claim to have conducted a thorough investigation when she never interviewed any — not one of the multiple eyewitnesses from the parish of Miqueli's theft — people who saw with their own eyes stacks and stacks of cash each week in the rectory that Miqueli took for more than two years. Why weren't any of them interviewed? Why did D.A. Clark choose to not prosecute Miqueli?
Would connections between Clark and archdiocesan officials on her transition team been used to produce the most favorable possible outcome for the archdiocese? When D.A. Clark announced her transition team after winning the 2015 election, prominent on the list was one Fr. Richard Gorman, a former judge on the archdiocesan tribunal who was suspended as a priest for charges of sexual abuse of minor boys, dating back to the 1980s.
No proper investigation? Ties to priests with influence at the archdiocese? Parishioners actually filed a suit in civil court alleging Miqueli with the combined theft of hundreds of thousands of dollars from not just their parish but St. Francis Cabrini on Roosevelt Island in Manhattan — $22,000 vs. hundreds of thousands if not a million — quite the discrepancy.
Then, there is the question of Miqueli's personal finances, investment accounts, which Church Militant was given a copy of, showing hundreds of thousands of dollars. How come the source of these funds was never investigated or the house in Brick, N.J. which he paid more than $200,000 for reportedly in cash? Too many unanswered questions, and the one party which stands the most to gain in all this is Cdl. Dolan's homosexual-clergy plagued archdiocese, who could ill afford another round of shocking headlines in the middle of a $200,000,000 fundraising campaign.
The second big issue, here, is the question of Miqueli's evil conduct which laughingly the archdiocese says it still has no substantive evidence. Here's just a partial list of easily obtainable evidence which Dolan's "investigators" have chosen to ignore and not pursue:
Seriously Cdl. Dolan, your crack investigators have not been able to discover any of this with various witnesses and texts, not to mention a string of letters sent to you over the course of years by parishioners concerned about the homosexual shenanigans going on in the Bronx parish. Yet, Miqueli is still a priest, no one knows where he is, he is still on some payroll of the archdiocese of New York and the communications office at the archdiocese of New York will not answer any question about him.
Bottom line, according to an even cursory read of reported evidence, he stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from two parishes over roughly a dozen years — used that money to pay a male prostitute, buy a house (in cash) in Brick, N.J. where he had(s) a sex dungeon, paid for various drugs for his S/M outings with the prostitute, went on various trips with same gay-for-pay prostitute, stayed with him at the Roman apartment of Cdl. Edwin O'Brien, who remember is from New York and was rector of St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers back in the 1980s, where he personally knew Miqueli and others who have now graduated to high posts in the archdiocese of New York.
It looks very much like some collusion has occurred between the D.A. and the archdiocese of New York to limit the damage as much as possible so that nothing would go to trial and become public record. This case stinks to high Heaven, both in the civil arena, as well as the Church. Miqueli is protected by a group of active homosexual clerics in the chancery, who hold very high offices. He screwed up getting caught in all this and they have been in damage control mode for close to two years now.
If there was ever saw a story worthy of blasting out there, this is it. Talk about first the crime then the coverup — holy, big fat lie. This is that story in spades. The parishioners have no intention of giving up on this, as well they shouldn't. They know the truth, and now the story has just gotten bigger.

The wagons continue to circle around Fr. James Martin and his homoheresy, and we have arrived at this point of which Martin is merely the point man because the reality is that there are really two bodies of baptized Catholics in the United States, each claiming to hold and teach the authentic faith. One is orthodox; the other is heterodox. What we have is a practical schism, a functioning day-in-day-out schism that cannot go on indefinitely.
Martin with his homoheresy is the frontman for the heterodox side, which for the moment does have the numbers and much of the power in the Church, but that will have all evaporated within the next generation, as their spiritual suicide is already in full-blown mode.
Everywhere he goes, Martin gets opposition in multiple forms, protests or petitions, for example. Before he ever arrives, faithful Catholics, still in the minority, start getting in polite communication with the hosting venue, asking that they disinvite him for his dissent and heresy. A recent example is the invitation by Spring Hill College in Alabama to Martin to deliver the 2018 commencement address. Spring Hill is a small Jesuit college with a very liberal — meaning whacked-out point of view, or more precisely not actually liberal but heretical. Why parents would want to pay the $33,000-a-year tuition bill for a supposed Catholic education is pretty puzzling, but we digress.
When the Coalition of Concerned Catholics wrote a very polite letter to the school asking them to disinvite Martin, here in part was the response they got. Hold on, because it's typical modernist crazy talk with our brief commentary:
"As the oldest Catholic college in the Southeast and the third-oldest Jesuit college in our nation, Spring Hill College has a 188-year history of speaking out and acting in favor of justice for those whose voices may have been marginalized."
[Social Justice 101: Hey Spring Hill, not all marginalized voices have a right to be heard because of the wickedness they support. Do you advocate for slaveholders or child pornographers? Aren't they marginalized? Yes, they are because some positions in fact merit being marginalized.]
"We are comfortable in having Fr. Martin serve as our commencement speaker. Cardinals Blase Cupich, Seán O'Malley and Joseph Tobin have all publicly endorsed Fr. Martin and his work."
[So what? This is another typical heterodox argument method — get some other big name, heresy-supporting names behind you and trumpet them. This is a false appeal to authority. These men also support sacrilegious Holy Communion. Appealing to these co-conspirators of Martin's in trying to reshape the Church only bolsters the argument against Martin.]
"We agree with Cdl. Cupich who said Fr. Martin 'has given his life for the service of the church. He's been very dedicated, he's well-respected.' The cardinal also said, 'I think those movements of not inviting or disinviting him were very unfortunate,' and our College agrees."
[Spring Hill's quoting of Cupich's support is another false appeal to authority. Why? Because Cupich is wrong. Martin has done nothing of the sort. He has given his life not for the service of the Church but for its destruction — just as we imagine Spring Hill has in malforming their own students in the Catholic faith, yet living as parasites on the Church, trafficking in the name "Catholic."]
"There is room in our Church for honest differences in how true followers of Christ understand and adhere to His teaching."
[Not when those differences are actually over the teaching itself. Disagreeing with the actual teachings and portraying that dissent as just a difference of opinion is indeed not honest but the very definition of dishonest.]
"All of humanity is created in the image and likeness of God, and Fr. Martin invites those of differing perspectives to explore opportunities for increasing understanding through respectful dialogue."
[Is there ever a missive written by the modernist heretic crowd that does not include an appeal to dialogue? All they want to do is talk, talk, talk. In reality, all they want to do is pervert, twist and destroy — all through the appearance of "respectful dialogue." We will remind the viewer, here, that we issued a public invitation a couple of months ago to Fr. Martin to "dialog" publicly about his "differing perspective, but the man pushing homoheresy — has been forbidden by his superiors from revealing his own sexuality because it would completely reveal the truth of his propaganda — has so far not responded.]
"That approach most definitely is consistent with the expectations of the contemplative discernment processes espoused in Jesuit teaching."
[Gotta say it: Shut up! Stop draping your heresy in the cloak of appealing to "discernment" and contemplation. Jesuit teaching, up until recently, never envisioned the acceptance and blessing of sodomy. But then again, St. Ignatius never envisioned his order being overrun by emasculated, effeminate sodomites using his sainted name to try and convince people that their evil is actually good.]
"We sincerely hope that, while we respect your position and your prerogative to hold it, you will also respect ours and that of the cardinals of the Church who have been outspoken supporters of Fr. Martin's views."
[Again, with the false appeal to authority, notice how polite the modernist crowd always is, always very respectful and concerned sounding, just like the Nazi guards politely and respectfully helping the Jews to board the trains, lending them a hand getting up on to the death transports.]
If you are in the minority Catholic Church right now, suffer through this passion. Pray, work and plant yourself firmly at the foot of the Cross, just as Our Blessed Mother did and St. John. Jesus Himself was betrayed by His own hand-picked followers and the religious leaders of His day. They all talked a good game as well — they were all about dialogue and so forth. But there was not a drop of goodwill in them, and for it, they were more than likely damned.
Martin and all his cardinal supporters bear a striking resemblance to Judas and the Sanhedrin. Judas had a lot of support and backing from the influential elders like Caiaphas. Even their rationalizations strike a very similar sounding note: "Better that one man should die than a whole nation perish." Better that one teaching be "re-interpreted" than a whole class of people be offended.
As these public defenses of Martin continue to mount, they have the effect of revealing the practical schism in the Church, but they also point to the truth that they cannot sustain themselves, and what is today the minority Church will be the only Church remaining. So tick tock, Spring Hill College and Fr. Martin and all those cardinal supporters. Every dog has its day.
Wait patiently and continue to act. God is in control. Pray for the modernist crowd that they see the light before they be plunged into eternal darkness.

Historians often like to point to one individual or one event to help explain various important moments in world history which altered the course of human affairs in a dramatic fashion. One of those — without that person or that event — the world would be very different today type things. Often times these are over simplifications, but they do help provide a context to things. Single individuals or moments don't just fall out the sky but are more like the spark that sets off an explosion. The explosives were already laid — all that was needed was the spark.
History is replete with these types of circumstances. Luther's revolt, the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand leading to World War I, the original defeat of the Etruscans by the Romans and so forth. But history is also rife with moments which did not occur that had they occurred, things would be very different.
The Democrats and the Left are currently realizing this lesson of history about sexual abuse and sexual harassment in Hollywood and Washington D.C. If we were to trace this torrent of allegations and accusations back to one moment as the focal point of "where it all began," it would have to be the Left's defense of Bill Clinton back in the 1990s. Of course, this behavior did not begin with Bill but excusing it and defending sure got a leg up under him.
Democrat after Democrat and every leading mainstream media outfit during those momentous days, surrounding Clinton's impeachment process in 1998 kept repeating ad nauseum, "It's just sex, it's just about sex. This should not be an impeachable offense." First, it wasn't just about sex. Clinton was impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice — not sex. Second, think how hollow that defense now rings in today's climate. A message was sent loud and clear that if you are powerful, you can abuse and get off scot-free. Now, 20 years later, it's busting out everywhere that hundreds, maybe thousands of big bosses, producers, politicians, learned that lesson well. Bill did not start all this, but he was the spark that set affairs in motion as who knows how many innocent women were raped, harassed, demeaned etc. because everyone knows "it's just about sex. No big deal."
We have a shocking, even more disturbing parallel within the Church, and no, it's not the homosexual priest, sex-abuse scandal, although that would qualify. No, we're talking about the missed moment — affairs that were set in motion because of something that did not happen in the Church back in 1968. When Bl. Pope Paul VI released his encyclical Humanae Vitae, too many clergy did not defend it, did not explain why this teaching is so monumentally important, despite its sometimes difficulty in being followed.
Just as Clinton allies did not step up to the plate and say he needed to resign the White House, likewise Catholic clergy and leaders did not step up to the plate and defend the Church's teaching. In the case of Clinton, you have an entire culture of abuse and harassment that has been allowed to run wild for 20 years. In the case of the Church, the inaction helped create the Culture of Death. But remember, neither Bill Clinton nor the embarrassing cowardice of the bishops of the 1960s just fell out of the sky. They are merely the flashpoints for something that had been brewing for a long time before their arrival, just as Luther's revolt didn't just happen, and for that fact, just as a marriage doesn't just fall apart.
In the case of the Church, committed Catholics need to understand what were the forces at play, what had been going on offstage and out of sight for the years, even decades leading up to this rejection of Church teaching — rejection certainly by the Canadian bishops — which they have still never recanted, as well as a nearly complete throwing in of the towel by their American counterparts.
This coming year marks the 50th anniversary of these historic and tumultuous events surrounding the collapse of the Church in the West. There are some common elements between the events surrounding the rejection of Humanae Vitae and Bill Clinton's abuse of power. The cry could be made — on the surface — that both cases are "just about sex" and on the surface that's true. But nothing momentous is ever just about what you see. There are always many, many things going on offstage that you don't see that bring about the historic world-changing events.
This is true in nature, for example, think giant killer hurricanes and how they develop because of various little seemingly innocuous weather patterns. It's true in politics, as well — think about how Trump is president in the face of the Clinton machine, which has controlled this country for 25 years, although it looks like that's coming to an end. It's also true in the Church where everything that goes wrong is always related back to a lack of supernatural faith and almost always on the part of leaders first.
Some leaders are wicked and devious and quietly working to dismantle the Church. But mostly, others are just careerists, who never want to rock the boat, which of course gives permission to the wicked to continue with their evil designs. The parallel between rotten Church leaders and evil politicians is truly amazing. The explosives are always there. All the diabolical does is wait for the critical moment.

If you hang around long enough, everything always comes full circle, it seems. Homosexualist James Martin is going to be speaking at a Catholic-in-name-only, homosexualist institution by the name of Misericordia University in the diocese of Scranton, Pennsylvania, whose bishop is homosexualist Joseph Bambera. And just so there's no confusion, the main currency, of course, for the homosexualist crowd (by homosexualist we mean those who advance the homosexualist agenda in opposition to the doctrines of the Catholic Church).
Sometimes homosexualists are actually sexually attracted to their same sex, sometimes they engage in that behavior, sometimes they just want to and other times they don't have a particular attraction at all but go along with the evil so as to advance their careers. That definition certainly fits Fr. Martin, but it also perfectly applies to the bishop — Joseph Bambera — who lauds Martin, a man who has been ordered by his superiors to never reveal his own sexuality in public.
Church Militant knows a thing or two about homosexual-friendly Bp. Bambera. See, he was the first bishop in the United States to formally cancel a speaking engagement of ours. I had been invited to be the main speaker at an event in his diocese back in 2011. It was to be at Marywood University. Then the liberal nuns complained to the homosexualist bishop, and it was canceled. And here is their lame, hypocritical reason for doing so:
The diocese of Scranton has determined that Mr. Voris will not be allowed to speak in a diocesan or parish facility. ... Mr. Voris makes comments that certainly can be interpreted as being insensitive to people of other faiths. The Catholic Church teaches us to respect all people, regardless of their faith tradition.
Of course, that's how a homosexualist would view a committed Catholic saying that the Catholic Church is the One True Faith established by Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and therefore all other religions are deficient. In stating this truth, all I did was reiterate what the Church Herself says of Herself even as recently as the year 2000 in Dominus Iesus where the Church says the Catholic Church is the One True Church. It caused quite the uproar back in the day, as truth always does. And this is why homosexualist bishops don't want truth-toting Catholics speaking in their home diocese. They hate the Truth. They can't handle it. They can't deal with it. They can't even hear it. It disturbs them too much. So they go running behind their episcopal skirts and pretend it's about people being offended and feelings hurt.
Good thing Cdl. Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict, hadn't been invited to speak instead of me — that would have been very embarrassing for homosexualist Bamber to cancel his speaking engagement because he is the one who actually wrote Dominus Iesus. But understand, none of this has anything to do with ecumenism or hurting people's feelings or any of the above. It has everything to do with promoting sodomy which is exactly what Fr. Martin does and by extension the bishop. Yes, Bambera is promoting the evil of sodomy by allowing Martin to speak.
Martin supports homosexual acts — he has never denied that — which is his sworn duty as a priest of God. He has openly said that Church teaching on sodomy and chastity doesn't apply to homosexuals because they have not "received" it. That's convenient. Even Cdl. Sarah took Martin to task over his lies and misinformation. Someone should invite Cdl. Sarah to speak in Scranton to further jam up homosexualist Bambera. See how weird this all looks?
Church Militant can't go speak there because in repeating Church teaching some people might have their little itty bitty feelings hurt by the Truth. But pro-gay Fr. Martin can speak his lies and deceit and is welcomed with open arms. As the Psalm says: All honey their speech; their mouths are a wide-open grave (cf. Psalm 5:10). The one glaring thing you will always notice in the homosexualist crowd is their complete lack of integrity. They are hypocrites, all. And you will recall what the Son of God who, yes, — take good notes homosexualist Bp. Bambera — established only one Church which you are living outside of with your betrayal of the sheep.
Almighty God declares that the hypocrites will be damned. You, Bp. Bambera, are advancing an agenda of sin and evil for which you will be held to account. You don't get to hide behind cries of fairness and outreach. If that's the case, why don't you amend the decision to allow that man to speak and really spice things up? Allow him to speak but this time allow Church Militant to speak as well on the same stage to offer "the other side," that side, of course, being the Truth of the Church, as well as the Truth of revealing the evil that Martin spreads. Twenty-thousand people have signed a petition asking you to disinvite this man. They are deeply offended. A handful of people, lesbian nuns and their allies, claimed to be offended at what we said about a Church teaching needing to believed, and their great high-dudgeon offense was enough for you to rip the rug out from under us.
Well, now considerably more people are offended at your decision to allow Martin to speak, yet, all of a sudden, people taking offense doesn't seem to matter to you. You are a hypocrite. You are a hypocrite in the service of the homosexualist agenda which makes the same question put to Martin fair game for you. Are you sexually attracted to other men, Bishop? Are you conflicted about all this deep in your psyche and see this as an opportunity to work out your own demons on the souls of those entrusted to you? Do you think Church teaching can be ignored and doesn't apply to someone who hasn't received it? Are you going to condemn that erroneous and heretical claim by your guest because if you don't, then you are just as guilty as he is, actually more guilty because you have the ability to put a stop to all this? But, it's very clear that you are just one of many homosexualist bishops and clergy in the United States who have contributed greatly to the destruction of the Church because of your own psychological intrigue, resulting in a loss of integrity. You prevent people from hearing the Truth of the Faith under the guise of some might be offended, yet when 20,000 people have directly expressed their offense, you tell them all to drop dead. Your actions are disgusting and wicked. Much more in your diocese needs to be opposed than just a speech by your fellow homosexualist Fr. Martin.
Pray that Bp. Bambera does not die in his sins — the judgment bar for a successor to the Apostles is incredibly high. If Heaven is extremely difficult for a rich man to enter, how much more difficult for a man even more rich in grace who falls like lightning from that exalted and gifted place.

If you hang around the Church these days, in particular, the Establishment Church of Nice, you'd have to be dead to not hear the buzzword missionary discipleship. Add to the front end of that the term "joyful band" and you end up with the catchy little phrase a joyful band of missionary disciples. That's the vocabulary circulating throughout the Church these days. It's caught on like wildfire — like a campaign slogan during election season — "Make America Great Again," "Hope and Change," "We need to be a Joyful Band of Missionary Disciples."
It's actually kind of pathetic, this jingoism Catholicism — this gimmick Catholicism with its laser light shows. This term has taken hold in the Church, and every discussion that is being had involves this term. It's practically replacing the now hackneyed "new Evangelization." The term itself catapulted to importance when Pope Francis used it in his 2013 Apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (Joy of the Gospel) where the Holy Father first uses the term. The upshot of what it means is summed up in paragraph 119:
Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus; we no longer say that we are "disciples" and "missionaries" but rather that we are always "missionary disciples."
Now, that may have been where it gained worldwide attention, but it first appeared on the scene back in 2007 in a document, which came out of a continent-wide meeting of the Latin American bishops' conference in Aparecida, Brazil. The meeting in Aparecida was held by senior clergy in part to devise a strategy for the massive falling away from the Catholic faith that had seized formerly Catholic South America. For most of the 20th century, South America was roughly 90 percent Catholic. But near the end of the century, the numbers started plummeting thus prompting the discussion among all South American bishops in 2007.
Well, that was ten years ago now. Then-Cdl. Bergoglio, Pope Francis, had a major role in writing the document. And since he has become pope, various bishops and conferences are running around all over the place, babbling on about the need to be a joyful band of missionary disciples. It has become the blueprint in principle for what they are all saying will be the resurrection of the Church — a much-needed revitalization. So, it only seems fair to check and see how well the "missionary disciple" approach has worked in the very land it was born — South America.
It was dreamed up by looking at how Protestants were making such inroads into the South American Church and stealing away millions of Catholics. The upshot was — put simply — the Church needs to appeal to people's emotions more and make people feel all excited, in short, be more evangelical and Pentecostal Protestant-looking. The plan has bombed since its implementation 10 years ago. Numbers of Catholics in various South American countries have cratered, with the continent overall going from roughly 90 percent in 1990 to 66 percent today. That's over a hundred million souls leaving the Church and flooding into Protestant congregations over the past 25 years. And during the last 10 years, when the Aparecida document with its missionary discipleship plan was in full gear, things got worse.
The rate of decline of the Church in South America has actually increased. A sweeping Pew Research Survey from two years ago finds that 69 percent of Latin American adults say they are Catholic, even though 84 percent of those surveyed said they were raised Catholic. Translation: there has been a 15-percentage-point drop-off in one generation and during much of that generational collapse was when the Aparecida plan of missionary discipleship had been instituted.
Why is this happening? On the macro level, it's actually not very complicated. Catholic spirituality was being ignored by Church leaders in South America from about the 1970s on. Sure, huge majorities still identified as Catholic at the time, but that was then. Today, it's all flipping. A huge surge of American Protestant Pentecostals and fundamentalists moved in — aided by U.S. foreign policy — and provided an emotional spirituality, which appeared better than no spirituality, and that's all she wrote.
So in 2007, Latin American bishops having largely abandoned Catholic identity — were looking around at what had essentially become the only game in town — Protestant emotionalism. Their brilliant plan was not to look in the mirror, admit their own negligence in keeping Catholic identity and spirituality vibrant. It was to look at how an anti-Catholic identity plan was working and imitate it. And the reason the number of Catholics keeps falling is because simply put they get a better show across the street.
This is what's so disturbing about how American bishops are throwing in with all this. The plan didn't work in the land in which it was born, which remember was a hugely majority Catholic region of the world. The Church had everything going for it — numbers, money, culture — and then they roll out their "let's look like the Pentecostals so we can convince people to be Catholic" plan. It's simply nuts, a non-starter. And when the "let's be Catholic by looking and acting Protestant" plan is installed in the U.S., it will fail.
Missionary disciple is a term that doesn't say anything explicitly Catholic, and that might be because depending on how it's implemented from one diocese to the next, there’s nothing particularly Catholic about it. This looks more and more like a case of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." Where are the Catholic leaders who have any interest in an authentically Catholic revival? You young men in seminary right now, the few of you there are, and you young priests take note of all this. This craziness currently in control of the Church will have left a Church virtually demolished over the next decade. You and a handful of faithful committed laity will be responsible for the preservation of the Faith. Do not give in to the temptation to resort to gimmick Catholicism.

This Vortex is coming to you live from Church Militant HQ here in Detroit following up on our breaking news over the weekend, concerning the declaration that the Argentine bishops' interpretation of Amoris Laetitia is now to be treated as "authentic Magisterium." The news is of course extremely troubling to many Catholics — scholars, theologians, canonists, clergy, as well as everyday Catholics in the pew.
But if we'd like to address this on a different level. What has brought about this supreme critical moment is the underlying challenge to the Faith. While this may appear to be a crisis regarding the papacy, we'd like to point to something even more critical. Whatever the troubling and disturbing aspects of this involving the papacy and Church teaching, the Holy Spirit will guide and protect as He always has.
What, however, is even more critical is that this is all the result of a loss of belief in the Real Presence of Our Blessed Lord in the Eucharist. With so many clergy and members of the hierarchy so anxious to distribute Holy Communion to those in an objective state of mortal sin under the guise of "mercy," there is a much more pressing issue at hand. It may, in fact, be the case that in protecting the Church and safeguarding the Deposit of Faith that the Holy Spirit Himself has allowed this crisis moment to be reached — part of Divine Providence.
The slow degradation of belief in the Real Presence over the past decades is the direct result of a loss of supernatural faith by members of the hierarchy. Overwhelming majorities of the laity no longer believe in the Real Presence. This cannot come as a surprise when one stops and takes into account the enormous numbers of abuses and sacrileges and missteps regarding the liturgy that have become commonplace in the Church.
From the turning around of the altars to face the people, to the removal of the tabernacle from the center of the sanctuary, to reception of Holy Communion in the hand, to the lessening of Eucharistic processions and the almost ignored prayer of Adoration, to a woeful lack of catechesis emphasizing the Real Presence, to the allowance of reception by notorious public sinners like so-called Catholic pro-abortion politicians, the current push for "shared Communion" with Protestant congregations that reject the Divine Reality to support for the notion that the Blessed Sacrament is "Bread for the Journey" for those in mortal sin which it can never be.
All of this and much more, step by step, has served to erode faith in the Real Presence. And now we have arrived — perhaps thankfully — at a moment of decision whereby the Church must step forward and in a loud declaration of faith once again assert in the most clear and striking and unambiguous terms the Divine Truth that Jesus Christ, the Eternal Logos, the incarnate Second Person of the Blessed Trinity is really, truly and substantially present, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity under the appearance of bread and wine.
For 50 years now, too many members of the hierarchy and clergy have allowed belief to wane by their actions of supporting abuses in the liturgy which is centered around the Real Presence. We have arrived at this crisis precisely because the even more pressing underlying crisis is the vast majority of the members of the body of Christ now reject or are indifferent to the actual Body of Christ on our altars and in our tabernacles. This has been brought about by first a lack of faith in the Real Presence among members of the hierarchy.
They have turned the Church into a giant social justice resource center and shuffled the Blessed Sacrament off to the side. They have turned the attention of the faithful toward the caprices of man and taken the eyes of the faithful off the Divine and now the natural consequence of betraying the Faith is at hand. The Church is shrinking dramatically for the very reason that the source and summit of the Faith — the Real Presence of Our Blessed Lord — has been neglected, replaced with a man-centered liturgy, a man-centered, feel good protestantized catechesis, corresponding poor formation of seminarians, a rebellion among religious, and a great apostasy among the faithful.
Committed and faithful Catholics have been growing in concern and corresponding desire that Heaven intervene and correct course. What we are witnessing coming to a head now just might be the beginning of that Divine correction. In centuries past, as heresy and crisis buffeted the Church, things were always brought to a head and that critical moment became the opportunity for spiritual sanity to be restored. The Church is not off the rails — that is not possible — but too many of her leaders are.
In response to all of this, we'd like to make an appeal that every Catholic hearing this or talking to others about this make every effort, as your daily commitments allow, to get in front of Our Blessed Lord either in an adoration chapel or before Him in the tabernacle as soon as possible and pray in all earnestness that He awake in the boat and calm the storm.
However, Heaven goes about calming the storm is for Heaven to decide. But it is critical that those who do believe in Our Lord's Real Presence in the Eucharist get in front of Him as soon as possible and plead for Him to intervene. He is there waiting for you to call on Him to intercede. This crisis can be turned into a powerful moment of intercession whereby, once again, Our Blessed Lord proves His might and power.
Do not tell Him what to do or how to do it. Merely, plead before Him. This appeal in the midst of the storm will not be greeted with the response "O Ye of Little Faith." It will instead be responded to with the sweet words , "Your faith has saved you."

The pope's recent trip to South Asia has, of course, prompted worldwide media attention on the Church in that region of the world. It also has given rise to reports about the condition of the Church in other parts of the world, namely Europe. Those articles found their way into Catholic publications in Asia, and what a sorry report it must have been for Asian Catholics to read about the near-death knell of the Faith in formerly Catholic Europe. Here was the headline and sub-headline: "All over Europe, Churches Creatively Rethink as Numbers Plummet: A huge drop in church membership and participation since the 1960s has accelerated over the past decade, despite determined Church efforts to reach out with new forms of evangelization."
Ouch! Tiny minorities of Catholics in other parts of the world are recognizing what many Catholics in those very same parts of the world have their heads buried in the sands over. It's interesting if you read through that article, that perspective. Catholics in Asian lands, for the most part, are not dealing with anything of what Catholics in the West deal with, namely Protestant-begotten, philosophical atheism.
That dynamic is hardly present at all in their countries, so it is an interesting take they bring when they look on the Church in the West, Europe in particular. And their forecast for the Church in Europe is pretty bleak, as that blaring headline screams out: "[the drop] has accelerated over the past decade, despite determined Church efforts to reach out with new forms of evangelization."
Yes, it sure has. There is a lesson here for the Church in America as well. All these new-fangled, high octane, explosive evangelization efforts are proving futile. On Friday, we talked about the failure of a copycat Protestant template in South America to lure tens of millions of Catholics back into the fold —epic fail. Now, here is an article in a small corner of the Catholic world in Asia saying the exact same thing about the Church in Europe. All these so-called reforms and gimmicks and spirit-filled movements and new exciting initiatives are going nowhere fast because they are not authentically Catholic, Catholic to their bone. They are Catholic lite at best.
The problem is, there isn't any real creativity here in the thinking. Leaders are just reacting to the chaos, not getting in front of it. It's all organizational and establishment restructuring which is not the primary issue. That's just all resource management. They don't care about the need for Catholics to re-establish an authentic Catholic spirituality and devotional life. They don't talk about Hell. They don't preach about the need for personal holiness as a calling and to avoid Hell. This is why the Bp. Barron garbage of "reasonable hope all men are saved" is so monstrously dangerous.
The entire mission of the Church, Her entire reason for existence, is compromised and being eliminated by the modernist cabal in the Church who are re-engineering the Church into a "resource center." But a resource for what? Certainly not salvation. How about a resource center for tennis? If you want to see what the Church in Europe is becoming, look at this video.
This is or was Milan's Church of the Conversion of St. Paul, where you can now play tennis in the nave instead of worshipping Our Blessed Lord. Just watch this video in silence for a few moments, if you can stomach it, and let it sink in. It's part of a civic art project in the decommissioned church that allows visitors to take racquets and play or just observe the game in front of statues and paintings of saints.
Yes, sure, it's a good thing we have a reasonable hope that all men are saved, and there's no crisis in the Church.
