Poltergeist (1982) is the Steven Spielberg produced and Tobe Hooper directed haunted house movie that shows how the horror genre can hit multiple layers of social commentary and still deliver chilling terror without being viewed as "preachy".
From commenting on Manifest Destiny, The American Dream, Reagan's America and White Flight, there is a literal cornucopia of meaning that you can find in this film. However, none of that has ever translated over to the sequels (Poltergeist 2 and Poltergeist 3) or the remake.
But what is it really about this film and film franchise about suburbia gone to hell that has stuck with us for over 40 years? Grab your static filled tube tv's as we venture into the world of ghosts and goblins as we review The Poltergeist Franchise.

Anthology Horror Movies were a genre staple in the 70's, 80's, and 90's but they've kinda fallen out of fashion; so what happened?
This week we are joined by special guest, Rusty Cundieff, the Director of one of the best anthology horror films, 1995's Tales From The Hood, to discuss what makes a good horror anthology. How important is the wrap around story and the role of the storyteller? And of course we've got our picks for favorite horror anthologies just in time for Halloween.
Recorded on location at the Eerie Horror Fest 2024

Despite coming out 30 years ago, The Crow (1994) still manages to beat it's 2024 remake into a bloody undead pulp.
This week, we are taking a look at these two films and trying to figure out not only why Brandon Lee's classic portrayal of Eric Draven is so beloved and has stood the test of time, but why this remake that, arguably was setup for failure, even made it to the big screen.
So grab your favorite trench coat and black and white face paint, because we are entering the sad goth world of THE CROW.

Is Megalopolis on track to be a massive flop? Or is it destined to be the greatest cult classic ever made?
This week, we got a chance to see the one night only advance IMAX screening of Francis Ford Coppola's 40 year Magnum Opus, Megalopolis. This film stars such big names as Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, Dustin Hoffman and many many many more.
This movie left us with some serious serious questions about the future of cinema. For instance, was this movie made for an audience that no longer exists? And does Copolla's grandiose style get in the way of his overall message.
Well strap in because this movie is either a misunderstood classic or a soon to be king of the cult cinema mount rushmore.

Is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice bad or would it work better as a tv show on Netflix rather than an overstuffed film?
The long awaited sequel to Beetlejuice is out now and as massive fans of the original we went in conflicted. Would this legacy sequel bringing back the likes of Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, and Tim Burton fulfill the promise of the original or would it just be another Nostalgia cash grab? Truth be told, its a bit of both.

Beetlejuice is on the minds of everyone with the legacy sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice killing it at the box office.
But the question has to be asked, What is it about this quirky horror comedy about a recently deceased couple trying to scare the living from their home and making the mistake of enlisting the help of a certain bio exoricst with a penchant for murder and whore houses that has truly capture the imagination of a generation?
To answer this and many more questions, we've enlisted the help of our own ghost with the most, Anastasia Elfman, who not only is the accomplished horror actress behind the film, Bloody Bridget, but also has a very very special family tie to the world of Beetlejuice, as her brother in law is none other than Danny Elfman himself. Yup, we've got Hollywood royalty on this one.
So sit back, relax and remember- never say his name 3 times.
