Cinema Psychos Movie Reviews

This week, Brian and John open the box and venture to the world of The Hellraiser Franchise. Now while we will eventually get to Hulu's Hellraiser Remake, we felt it was necessary to look at the absolute worst moment in the franchise. We are of course talking about 2011's Hellraiser Revelations. This movie is on a whole other level of bad; and we aren't just saying that cause it features "Fat/Wish.com/Great Value Pinhead". This movie was one in a series of copyright grabs by everyone's favorite creep, Harvey Weinstein and Dimension Films in an effort to retain the rights for profit. Fair warning...This particular episode of The Cinema Psychos Show is a bit extra explicit. So if you like our episodes where we are a bit more on the vulgar humor side, this one is for you.

This week as we drift out of our Halloween Hangover, John has forced Brian to finally confront his distaste for The Scream Franchise. Long time listeners of the podcast will know that despite Brian being an aficianado of cinematic terror, Wes Craven's 1996 meta-filled opus stands as a very consequential film in Brian's view of how the horror movie was changed irrevocably as a result of it's success.

So it is a franchise analysis AND a therapy session, a trick and treat if you will. So grab your ghost face mask and book of meta movie knowledge as we crack open The Scream Franchise!

Happy Halloween Psychos Nation!

As this is dropping on All Hallows Eve, I wanted to give you all a very special treat.

John and I were lucky enough to attend The Eerie Horror Fest earlier in the month and we had the pleasure of talking with a number of celebrity guests. This first one was one of the ones I was most interested in meeting.

John Adams and Tobey Poser are the husband and wife team, who along with their children, have truly shaken up the indie horror landscape with their terrifying film, "Hellbender" which holds a 97% one Rotten Tomatoes and has

In talking with them, we got to learn about how they take real life situations that their family has dealt with and weave them into tales of the macabre that frighten and delight.

So as you're handing out candy tonight, take a listen to our amazing interview with The Adams Family.

It feels like forever since we released an episode PsychosNation! But after a brief hiatus that saw us travel to be part of The Eerie Horror Fest, we are back with some amazing new episodes recorded inside the festival itself. This week, we are venturing to the bowels of streaming hell as we take a look at the newest cinematic offering from Rob Zombie with "The Munsters". A movie that as of late has hit a mixed bag of reviews with some finding charm in the bizarro color scheme, zany characters, and well....the fact it wasn't as terrible as Universal Studios's trailer department had made it appear. Others have of course, as with most of Rob Zombie's movies as of late, have found this to be a bizarro attempt at telling the story of The Munsters without truly understanding what The Munsters were about. But where do we stand in this opinion tug of war? Well tune in and find out!

It's not everyday that we get an indie film to review. And this one comes straight from Germany! Filmmaker Zetkin Yikilmis unleashes her newest film, "PINK RABBIT". The film details the bizarre journey, concocted by an equally bizarre man dressed like a Pink Rabbit, that a young mother named Martha has to endure on the way home to her young son and husband. The movie pays homage to a number of bizarre and surreal tropes from other genre films while at the same time forcing us to ask the question of whether all the horrors that the Pink Rabbit puts Martha through are real or all in her head. Being an indie film, we definitely saw moments of greatness coupled with areas that we felt could be improved. But don't take our word for it. Pink Rabbit is available worldwide on Sept. 13 for you to check out for yourself.

Check out the trailer for PINK RABBIT

Be sure to look for Pink Rabbit when it drops on Amazon, Vudu, Itunes, and everywhere else on Sept. 13th from Gravitas Ventures!

This week, we are taking a trip to Hollywood and symbolism in Director & modern horror maestro, Jordan Peele in his newest film, NOPE. Nope is an interesting movie as on the surface it feels very much like a throw back to the old school monster movies of the 70's and 80's. But in classic Jordan Peele style, there is way more meaning behind the film..and moments of levity between the terror. However, with a knock out film like his first film "GET OUT" and the "meh" reception to his second film, "US" how does "NOPE" stack up? Does it deliver the scares and laughs or does it fail to live up to expectations?

This week, we've got a very special guest on for a very special interview. Award winning filmmaker and the brains (not for consumption zombie fans) behind the Eerie Horror Fest, John C. Lyons stops by the podcast to discuss his journey as a filmmaker and storyteller, his most recent film, Unearth which has garnered critical acclaim as brilliant example of Environmental Horror, and of course his plans for a jam-packed Eerie Horror Fest that is truly rising from the dead this October 5-8th at the Warner Theater in Erie, PA.

This week, Brian and John try to analyze the age old conflict between nerds.....Star Trek vs Star Wars.....I mean Practical FX vs CGI. Yes a war that has been waged on between cinephiles in the lobbies of movie theaters across the world since 1993. But why do these techniques in creating the fantastical have to be polar opposites? Why is there so much love for what arguably are less realistic and more expensive practical fx and so much vitrol and critique over computer generated visual effects? Is there room in the big tent of filmmaking for both of these camps? We'll find out today! Fair warning, we're gonna go deep into filmmaking lore and there may be a bit of an unscheduled political rant as well. So grab your hard drive and air bladders as we dive into the ultimate slugfest between Practical FX and CGI!

This week, John and Brian sit in some group therapy as we examine the loss of their childhood with the newest dinosaur-sized turd in the form of Jurassic World: Dominion. This movie has it all: a ridiculous plot, phoned in "member berries in the form of vintage Jurassic Park characters showing up, and all the dinosaur action that a bloated hollywood cash grab can muster. Despite all that, the real question we all have is how can a movie franchise fall so low? How can you start off with a movie that captured the imaginations of billions with cutting edge CGI that changed the way movies were made; and end up with what literally is a bloated sausage filled with the entrails of greatness. It's a question that Brian and John attempt to answer. So grab your popcorn folks, cause group therapy is in session as we take a trip to Jurassic World: Dominion.
