Marvel is back at it again this week with a film that we had all been waiting for since Nick Fury pulled out a beeper as he turned to dust in last year's Avengers: Infinity War. We are of course talking about Captain Marvel, the newest entry into Marvel's ever growing and ever dizzying domino rally set that is the MCU. A series that has focused primarily on male led super hero films with female characters taking the guise of side characters or love interests. Yet Captain Marvel is marketed as being a game changer in that regard. So does the film live up to the promise of filling the gender gap in super hero films? We'll find out today!

A movie that showed a lot of promise coming off the heels of the surprisingly good "Split" and finishing the deconstructed superhero trilogy started in 2000 with "Unbreakable". This week, we are finally taking a stab at reviewing the year that was 2018. While we've used metaphors like a nuclear holocaust to describe a year in the past, no metaphor felt more true and of course more Pittsburgh than the floating dumpster. And what is in our floating dumpster this year you ask? Well we've some Oscar bait films, a whole heaping ton of mediocrity bordering on just laziness in mainstream cinema, and on the horizon, streaming services that threaten the very existence of said mediocrity. So hop into our floating dumpster as we review the year that was 2018.
