Fire up the projectors, because the films are coming fast and furious… well, not literally… You know what we mean! This week on CinemaJaw a triple-dose of movie mayhem! It’s time for another REVIEW-O-RAMA!

We have Disney’s latest ride-turned movie re-make Haunted Mansion, a new horror from the consistently high-quality studio A24, Talk To Me, and last but not least a Zach Galifianakis vehicle/biopic/product movie, The Beanie Bubble. It’s a jam-packed ‘Jaw as always!

Reviewed: Barbie, Oppenheimer

In a year that has seen a new Indiana Jones, Mission Impossible, Spider-Man, and Michael Keaton in a bat-suit… the Movie Event of the Year is undeniably #Barbenheimer.

An accidental double-feature that started out as a petty payback tactic, but became the most unlikely synergistic box-office powerhouse perhaps of all time. #Barbenheimer has made us all rethink how films could be marketed and upended traditional thinking on release schedules. Most of all it has sparked an internet phenomenon that translated into real sales and brought the box-office to a 4 year high!

But… How are the actual movies? This episode we will review Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. We need a doll of a guest with an atomic appreciation of film…

Enter Doug Walker, the Nostalgia Critic.

Doug Walker (aka The Nostalgia Critic) is a successful satirist, filmmaker, and one of the most entertaining film critics on YouTube. Reviewed: Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One

So tempting to get an AI to write this post… but I assure you, we resisted the temptation. This year, there has been an explosion in popularity and paranoia about what we (perhaps erroneously) call Artificial Intelligence. These tools, are uncanny and powerful there is no doubt and popular culture has caught on to this hot-button topic.

Enter our review, Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One. Somehow the writers saw the writing on the wall a few years back and wisely chose an AI villain to play upon those fears. Who knows? Maybe they used an AI to predict what sort of villain would be most scary in 2023 because it is spot on!

This got us thinking… What are some other great AI movies and characters in film? Thus our Top 5 A.I. in Film! We even get ChatGPT to enter it’s Top 5 as well!

Reviewed: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Extraction 2, No Hard Feelings

Summer Popcorn season is in full swing! There are so many great movies (and crappy ones) hitting theaters right now, that we knew it was time for one of our patented… REVIEW-O-RAMAs!

On the docket this week, a trio of blockbusters that couldn’t be more different. A large big-screen adventure send-off in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, a streaming sequel that’s breaking records in Extraction 2, and a broad comedy starring our person of the month, Jennifer Lawrence, in No Hard Feelings. We’re all over the place!

It’s simple enough. Three reviews for your eardrums to feast upon. Enjoy!

This week on CinemaJaw we celebrate our NEW STUDIO with a double feature review and celebration of the Best / Worst movies in a particular category. On the review docket: the latest DCEU film, The Flash, and Disney/Pixar’s latest, the long-awaited Elemental. Could we be dealing with a Best/Worst right there?

Reviewed: Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, Heroes of the Golden Mask

This week on CinemaJaw we swing through the podiverse as we cover two universe-hopping movies,  the latest Sony Animation film Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, and Christopher Plummer’s final effort, Heroes of the Golden Mask. These two films are diametrically opposed, proving not all trips through the multiverse are created equal. Listen to find out which is which.

Joining us on this strange journey is a documentarian, who knows a thing or two about other dimensions.

Starting with a VHS camcorder and his family’s cats, moving on to grade school kung-fu cinematic spectaculars, Craig Bass eventually co-founded the Chicagoland video production company, Motion Source. After 15 years of creating content for brands such as Walgreens and Segway, and pouring his artistic soul into mini-budget music videos and short films, Craig is making his feature film debut with Ghostlord and the Quest for Dark Presence. The documentary is on Doc Mack, the owner of Galloping Ghost Arcade, located in Brookfield, Illinois.

The subject of the doc is the Owner of the largest arcade in the world, Doc Mack (aka Ghostlord), who has spent nearly 3 decades working on a video game that he believes has the potential to supercharge a struggling industry. Ghostlord and the Quest for Dark Presence follows Doc’s journey to create a live-action digitized fighting game from the first hint of the game’s idea, through crooked investors, a mysterious illness, surprise iguanas, a nearly-assassinated landlord, and multiple reshoots. It’s a doc we at CinemaJaw are watching closely and cannot wait to see… and if Doc Mack ever finishes his game, we’d like to see that as well!
