  • 2413: Through a burning sky
    STS-1 reimagined by Richard Gadd.
"I had hoped to have some ambient sounds from inside the shuttle and not just voices. Listening to the conversation between the shuttle crew and the ground suggested I should focus on the re-entry. This can be characterised by intense heat, compromised communication, sonic booms followed by a relatively quiet glide to landing. So I have used a number of drone tracks to suggest the approach to the earth’s atmosphere, the passage through and the glide with clips of the original to add interest."

  • 2412: STS-1: We're Going to Dust it Off First
    Recorded by NASA.
STS-1 (Space Transportation System-1) was the first orbital spaceflight of NASA's Space Shuttle program. The first orbiter, Columbia, launched on 12 April 1981 and returned on 14 April, 54.5 hours later, having orbited the Earth 36 times.

  • 2411: The eagle has landed (reimagined)
    Reimagined by Leon Muraglia.
"Astronauts, in the vastness of space: floating in a tiny metal box and then actually achieving a landing on a planet, knowing that this really was a giant leap for mankind. No external sounds, all audio is processed from the original recording."

  • 2410: The Eagle has landed
    Recorded by NASA.
On July 20, 1969, the Apollo 11 crew successfully completed the national goal set by President John F. Kennedy eight years prior: to perform a crewed lunar landing and return to Earth.
Crew: Neil Armstrong, Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., Michael Collins
    Launch: July 16, 1969; 9:32 a.m. EST
    Landing: July 24, 1969; 12:50 p.m. EST

  • 2409: Charged Particles
Voyager tsunami waves reimagined by Gavin Morrow.
"'Charged Particles' starts with a wall of discordant electronic glitches and static noise, representing a disruptive interstellar 'Tsunami Wave' (recorded by the Voyager 1 probe in the original field recording). This shock wave slowly dissipates, and we are left to drift onwards through the tranquil blackness of space.
For this recomposed piece, I took a tiny section of the Voyager 1 recording and looped it to create the seed of a drone sound. This was then digitally time-stretched, with added reverb to smooth it out. From this I created a series of audio stems with which to work with. Each of the stems were treated in different ways, using effects pedals, with varying amounts of distortion, granular synthesis, delay and reverb. The layers were recorded onto cassettes, and mixed on a pair of four-track tape recorders."

  • 2408: Tsunami waves, Voyager
    Recorded by NASA.
The Voyager 1 spacecraft has experienced three "tsunami waves" in interstellar space. Listen to how these waves cause surrounding ionized matter to ring. More details on this sound can be found here: www.nasa.gov/jpl/nasa-voyager-t…nterstellar-space/

  • 2407: Ode to a People's Vote
People's Vote demonstration in London reimagined by Cities and Memory.
Taking the bagpipes playing the EU anthem "Ode to Joy" as a starting point, we've built up a crescendo of loops from that piece, interspersed with commentary from Theresa May's latest address to the UK in March 2019, in which she held members of parliament to blame for a failure to bring about the UK's exit from the EU. This is cut with samples from the People's Vote march, symbolising the schisms caused in the UK by the Brexit issue.

  • 2404: Stochastic Flows
Cliff Geyser reimagined by Kathleen Judge.
"Listening to the geyser recording I kept thinking of rushing particles, rhythm and flow. Living in the city I wanted to juxtapose similar sounds that flow (subways, machines, people) with this 'nature' recording. I start and end with the original geyser 'as is', then weave my field recordings into the original recording (hangers, pipes, ice, glass, subway singers, radio). I used the geyser recording on 3 tracks. The first track I left alone, without any effects. The second version I added static and pops to it, the third I added some delays and changed the pitch. Otherwise I tried to keep FX on the recording minimal."
