Happy New Year! I'm glad to be back after the holiday break and hope 2015 is not going too badly for all y'all so far.
Tonight I was happy to chat live with the erascible and multi-talented C.R. Avery. Who else would find a hidden venue in East Van (side room at Joe's Cafe) and put on a cabaret? Each Saturday in January, folks. Be there or be square!
First live studio session of the year took place, with Leora Joy and Scott Perrie of Winsome Kind. Lovely harmonies and chat, and congratulations on the pregnancy! (someone was busy in 2014.. ;-) )

Thanks to all of you for listening, and please keep in touch, won't you?

    hugs,

Welcome to the last Folk Oasis of 2014! Tonight's interview was with Budge Schacte, guitarist for Van Django. They're currently doing a Lower Mainland tour with their Xmas variety show "Van Django Bells". The rest of the show was wintry, eclectic and occasionally Christmas-y.

Best holiday wishes to you all and thanks for all your support in 2014. Hope you'll join me for a new year of folk, frolic, and fun in 2015!

    Hugs,

Hope you're surviving December, and December storms, and December king tides! This rainy evening we welcome Ari Lantela + Jasmin Frederickson to the studio for a live session. They've just moved to Vancouver from Calgary and have a fab little outfit called Chicken Like Birds. Had some nice chat and enjoyed some great tunes.
Songs about storms and king tides, anyone? You'll hear a bunch near the top of the show, right after the weather report.
Keep warm and dry, and thanks for listening!

As we roll into the last month of 2014, we take time tonight to mark the 25th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre. May we never forget the 14 women who died that cold day in December 1989, and may we continue striving to eliminate gun violence against all.
Tonight's "vinyl vault" feature marks the sad passing today of Ian McLagan. Besides his UK rock past, he was an important part of the Austin roots music community for the last two decades. RIP Mac.
Vancouver's brief sunny/cold spell is coming to an end. I look forward to the end of touque head!

Hope you're all keeping warm and cozy, and thanks for listening.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends! Tonight's podcast extended slightly tonight. More folky goodness for all! On tonight's show I dipped into the vinyl vaults and pulled out a Nick Drake compilation to feature.
Tonight's interview was with Kathleen Nisbet. Besides being a musician (Viper Central) she is the driving force behind East Van Opry, which is now an annual event. 2nd annual EVO takes place Nov. 30 at the Rio Theatre. Be there with bells on!

Take care, stay dry, be good to yourselves, and thanks for tuning in!

Hello podcast subscribers! Here's a little lagniappe, lil something extra for y'all this American Thanksgiving. I filled in for Exploding Head Movies on Nov. 24, and I thought you might enjoy this show. If you enjoy the music from Princess Bride you'll love it, and heck, there's even some folky content among the other tunes. Enjoy! And be sure to check out the other podcasts for XHM. GAK does a great job with that show.

    cheers, val

Emerging from the fog of a rather nasty head cold (thanks to listener who offered to make me chicken soup!) I bring you tonight's show. Joining me live in the studio was Jett Pace, aka Old Man Canyon, who wraps up a tour tomorrow at the Biltmore. I also featured a few upcoming events: Black Hen Travelling Roadshow Revue, the 9th annual Grand Cariboo Opry, and the 2nd annual East Van Opry. Wherever you are, please support your local music scene!

Thanks, as always, for listening, and remember to wash your hands often during this cold/flu season!

No special theme or guests tonight: just two hours of new, eclectic folk for you all. Did you know Vashti Bunyan has a new album out? You'll hear about some local gigs of note. Please do get out and support live music in your city! And if you live in BC, don't forget to vote in the municipal elections Nov. 15.
Thanks so much for listening. Your support of campus/community radio is always appreciated. Take care, and please stay in touch!

    cheers, val

Two big rainstorms this week in Metro Vancouver; hence the title of this podcast. No interviews this week but I did give away some tickets and played a good chunk of new music. Hope you enjoyed the show! Your feedback is always welcome, so please shoot me an email, or get in touch with our station staff (see www.citr.ca for contact info)

Happy Rememberance Day, and please stay warm and dry!

Good evening, ghouls and goblins! This week it's all about the devil (and a few ghosts) from the likes of Cowboy Junkies, Shovels & Rope, Good For Grapes, Whitehorse, and many more. Music to purge demons to..

Thanks for listening, hope you enjoyed tonight's show, and stay tuned next week for two more kumbaya-free hours!
