Hello Listeners,
While taking a bit of a break this 2nd pandemic summer I am opening up the Civically Speaking Vault.
In this episode, going back to 2014, Fall, to an interview with former Councillor Pat Lorje and Councillor Randy Donauer with the City of Saskatoon.
It was the second episode I had done as a radio host. And the recording was by my blackberry I had at the time. Most shows were not recorded and podcasting was not as big a deal then as it is now. Have a listen. It's an interesting chat in light of what's going on now in our civic arena.

Dear listeners,
Councillor David Kirton, a Councillor with the City of Saskatoon and a journalist by trade, takes us 'Behind the Kirton' a second time with City of Saskatoon, Water Director, Russ Munro. We explore the 'waste' side of water. If you have ever wondered what happens to the water that goes down your drains or leaves from any other orifice of your home, yard or business - this is well worth the listen.
Much appreciation to Russ Munro for taking us on this waste-filled journey in all the most interesting municipal infrastructure ways. And, Councillor Kirton, thanks for masterfully guiding us on this journey about an important aspect of municipal infrastructure.

Dear Civically Speaking Listeners,
You are in for a real treat. Dr. Ryan Brook is an Associate Professor with the College of Agriculture and Bioresources. Dr. Brook studies wildlife ecology and health and much much more.
In this first visit to Civically Speaking, Dr. Brook shares some of his recent research around the movement of bears, wild pigs, and other mammals around our urban environment in Saskatoon and discusses wildlife patterns of certain mammals across Saskatchewan and throughout Canada. Have you heard of wild boars-pigs? Bears outside of Saskatoon? Deer? Cougar? And, more rabbits?
Thank you for coming on the show Dr. Brook. We could have talked for hours. We will definitely be having Dr. Brook back for a deeper dive into his research.
Follow Dr. Ryan Brook on twitter @RyanKBrook. And join in on the efforts of YXEwildlife through facebook.

Dear Listeners,
Thank you for tuning into Civically Speaking. Much appreciation.
In this episode, Dr. Kyle Anderson, a professor in the Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology Department with the University of Saskatchewan, shares some excellent information about the mechanics behind COVID19 and pathways forward.
Dr. Anderson is able to break down the mechanics of Covid19 in simple ways. His use of helpful analogies gives us a better understanding of where the path is moving forward in terms of dealing with COVID19 in Saskatchewan, and by extension, to the rest of the world.
I am hoping this interview sparks people's interest to become even more involved in this field of science and medicine. Such a crucial subject area. We are all becoming citizen scientists and nerding out without even sometimes really being aware of such. And, at times, we may know more then we wish, by virtue of being part of living through an early 21st Century pandemic.
Indeed, the fields of biochemistry, microbiology and immunology - as you will find defined online via any number of links - is about studying the world of viruses, bacteria, yeasts, protozoa, moulds and related and how they affect human and animal health. What a fascinating field that includes examining the immune system and looking for antibiotics and vaccines to respond to things like COVID19.
Thanks Dr. (Kyle) Anderson. Really enjoyed the discussion.
And listeners, please support community radio wherever you are, including in our wonderful city of Saskatoon and province.
Civically Speaking aims to create a 'commons' for the sharing of a mix of voices, opinions, perspectives, professional and community-wise - informed, impassioned and otherwise. Views of others are their own and not representative of either the station this is aired on, the podcast carrier you listen to this on, or myself . The commons encourages each of us to get involved, do our own research, and join the commons in whatever way we can with whatever topic or issue of interest.
Thanks again for tuning in. Please share this episode and others with those you think would be interested.
