A Shannon resident says a more welcoming attitude needs to be developed for international protection applicants who are coming here.

There have been mixed views expressed about plans to open a facility in the Shannon Free Zone for up to 300 people fleeing conflict later this year.

The Department of Integration has been accused of not communicating enough information about the issue, though says further details will only be disclosed when designs and a contract with a provider to operate the facility are agreed.

Chair of the Love Shannon Community Council Derek Clune says problems such as housing and health need to be dealt with in tandem to helping those flee war.

A Clarecastle Councillor says speed needs to be brought down at the Clareabbey roundabout as a matter of urgency.

It comes after it was revealed engineering consultants are currently modelling the roundabout's redesign, which includes improved cycling and pedestrian facilities.

The only current air monitor from the EPA in Ennis is located in Drumbiggle, with some suggestions that more may be needed on foot of the problem.
