Management at one of Clare's largest employers claim the facility's future is bright as it prepares for a significant new chapter in its history.
This month's meeting of Clare County Council's Economic Development Strategic Policy Committee has been held at Moneypoint Power Station where major works are about to get underway.
In two weeks time, work will begin to convert the 900-megawatt coal-burning station to Heavy Fuel Oil, or HFO, which it's claimed will "provide significant backup to the national electricity grid when predicted/projected demands outstrips generation".
Moneypoint is currently being used as an out-of-market generator of last resort, or backup generator, to the national grid, and plans are afoot to make its output entirely renewable going forward.
Clare FM's Seán Lyons made the trip west to Moneypoint and began by speaking to Clare's Minister of State, Timmy Dooley..
