The festival, which celebrates the Atlantic Ocean and highlights the ocean based physical activities available in Kilkee, will get underway from Friday.

A Clare business owner is urging the Government to exclude the salary of public sector workers when calculating the national minimun wage.

It comes as the newly formed SME Alliance, which involves a range of Irish Small and Medium Enterprises and trade union representatives, is appealing for immediate and essential reforms to taxation and output costs.

The alliance claims that 48% of the workforce are employed by the public service or multinationals, which it believes does not reflect the reality for small firms.

ISME Council Member and Director of St.Tola’s Goats Cheese in Ennistymon, Siobhán Ní Ghairbhith says the Government should focus on reducing the cost of living, rather than increasing costs for local businesses.

The Clare County Chair of the ICMSA insists the agricultural sector needs to re-examined in the upcoming budget, to secure the future of the sector.

It follows the publication of a survey carried out by the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association and Agriland ahead of the National Ploughing Championships today, which found that eight in ten farmers believe a 'green agenda' is negatively impacting farmers' livelihoods.

The Green Party has defended its policies, however, claiming there's no disconnect between the party and rural Ireland, and that it's continuing to deliver for farmers.

Chair of the Clare branch of the ICMSA, Martin McMahon, has been telling Clare FM's Darragh O'Grady that farmers having to continuously take out loans is evidence that they're struggling financially.

The Principal of Clare's largest secondary school is hopeful a newly approved expansion will benefit students for generations to come.

Work has commenced at St.Flannan's College in Ennis on the construction of six new special needs education classrooms, a new technology room and three science labarotories which it's expected will be completed by next September.

The expansion will allow Flannan's to introduce technology as a subject and cater for a growing population of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The new building will firstly act as the temporary home of almost 300 students from Knockanean National School, until their newly approved two-storey school building comes on stream.

St.Flannan's Principal Fr Ignatius McCormack insists the expansion will future proof the catchment area.
