Clare is set to see an increased allocation of electric vehicle charging points in the coming years.

As part of the Department of Transport's 'Zero Emissions Vehicles Ireland' initiative, Clare County Council has been tasked with devising an 'Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy' which involves delivering charging points at strategic locations.

This county saw the highest electric vehicle sales growth nationwide last year, with 421 units sold here which was up 68% on 2022.

Due to the popularity of electric vehicles as well as steady tourist traffic in Clare, Kilrush Fine Gael Councillor Gabriel Keating says it's "so important" there are ample places for people to charge their cars.

785 new websites were set up in Clare last year.

Irish domain registry I.E. has revealed the findings in its annual report for 2023.

Almost half of new sites created in this county related to business ventures.

I.E CEO David Curtin says the outlook for Clare's digital economy this year is strong.

In this morning’s Gospel Mark tells the story of Jesus casting out an unclean spirit.

This is the first miracle story Mark reports. Which should make us sit up and take notice, as “firsts” in any narrative usually aren’t there by accident.

A Clare Senator claims that the people of the MidWest region are facing regional discrimination when it comes to rail prices.

As it stands, an adult commuters pays a price of €3.60 to travel 40km from Maynooth Train Station to Dublin Pearse, however the price rises to €5.15 for the equidistant journey from Ennis to Limerick Colbert.

Currently just 280 people in this county are using the train on a daily basis, which is the third lowest proportion nationwide.

Speaking in the Seanad Ennistymon Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway says all tax-payer routes should be standardised.

It's claimed a Strategic Development Zone in Clare would be extremely beneficial to the local economy.

Clare County Council and the University of Limerick submitted a joint application in February 2022 to designate lands north of the campus as an Economic Strategic Development Zone, but no decision on the project has yet been made by government.

Aimed at attracting foreign direct investment into the region, the SDZ would consist of educational facilities, research labs, student accommodation and was predicted to create 3,500 jobs while bringing €1.795 billion into the economy each year.

Clonlara Independent Councillor Michael Begley believes getting the SDZ over the line should be a top priority.
