  • Classics You Slept Through: Bonus Episode 2 - Nate the Snake

As Mere and baby have returned home and are settling into their new life, we're doing another bonus episode this week!

Today I'm reading one of my favorite stories, that of Nate the Snake. There's no attributable author, though you can read along on the internet, and there's even an alternate narration, if you want to listen to another reader's take.

Please enjoy, and keep an eye on our social media feeds for when we'll pick back up with Northanger Abbey.

  • Classics You Slept Through: Bonus Episode 1 - Talking Reading with Dad

A bonus episode!? What is this??

If you listened all the way through yesterday's wrap of Moreau, then you know that Mere has given birth to a healthy baby girl, and honestly, it couldn't have come at a better time, as we haven't yet started Northanger Abbey.

Never fear - we will start that book once Mere is back on her feet and ready to record again.

In the meantime, we (or, mostly Kyle, with a little help) will be bringing you some bonus content, starting with today's interview with our Dad.

Back in our first episode, Mere and I both discussed how our life-long love of reading was formed very early, by our Dad reading to us nightly. We'll talk with him about the decision to read to his kids, what he enjoys reading (or not), and some of his favorite memories and books from our youth.

Hope you enjoy, and look out for more bonus content over the next few weeks.

If there's something off the wall you'd like us to tackle before we're back to Northanger Abbey, let us know!

  • Classics You Slept Through: Episode 16 - The Island of Doctor Moreau Wrap

Classics You Slept Through: Episode 16 - The Island of Doctor Moreau - Wrap Up Episode

Well, that's it. We've finally left the Island and its bizarre inhabitants behind. We would have closed this up sooner, but we recorded the podcast too far from the server, and by the time we drug it there, it had disintegrated...

We'll discuss what we thought about Moreau, how much we enjoyed it, and we'll reveal our next book, which you can find in your feed tomorrow!

If you want to read along, go get yourself a copy for free!

Also in today's episode, Kyle references a story about some schoolboys who steal a boat, get shipwrecked, and survive on their own without descending into Lord of the Flies style anarchy. Check it out: it's pretty fascinating.

What did you think about the book? As always, you can find us on all the typical places:

Maybe rate and review us while you're at it? I mean, we'd appreciate it...

In the episode, we'll go over the first half of Moreau, through chapter 13. We'll meet our narrator and feel some existential terror at the hopelessness of the situations he experiences, culminating with his arrival at the titular island.

Look for tomorrow's episode to uncover the mystery of the island!

Classics You Slept Through: Episode 12 - The Island of Doctor Moreau - Chapters 1 - 13

I'm very excited to be starting our third book, The Island of Doctor Moreau, by a founding father of science-fiction, H.G. Wells. It's our first foray into the genre, and a new experience for Mere.

You can get the ebook here, if you'd like to read along.

Really looking forward to discussing this one next week!

Classics You Slept Through: Episode 11 - The Metamorphosis Wrap-Up

In today's episode, we're putting the trial and sorrow of Gregor Samsa to bed (under the bed?). This was an interesting read which had some disturbing parallels to our own family.

We're also revealing our next book, the first part of which will be in your feed tomorrow! (Spoiler: we're very excited about this one!)

Classics You Slept Through: Episode 10 - The Metamorphosis Discussion Part 2

Baby milestone! We've reached ten episodes! Thanks to all of you, our listeners, as this is our first foray into podcasting.

Today we close out The Metamorphosis, our second book. It certainly ended in a much different place than what I expected, which probably means I missed a ton of subtext.

We're excited to hear what you thought about the book!

Listen next week for a final wrap of The Metamorphosis and the reveal of our next title!

Classics You Slept Through: Episode 9 - The Metamorphosis - Part 2

Today's episode finishes our second book, The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka. Today's read is the second half of Chapter 2 and Chapter 3.

Copy of the ebook, if you want to read along.

Discussion will be up next Tuesday. In the meantime, what did you think about The Metamorphosis? Is Gregor's family better off without him? Should he have accepted his new state, or tried harder to cling to his humanity? And most importantly, what did you name the charwoman?

Send us your thoughts on these burning questions, and leave us a review!
