Clay's Canucks Commentary

The Canucks will play their final preseason game Friday night against Edmonton, and then all the games will count for real.

We talk about the final roster battles to keep an eye on during the game.

The Canucks lost Jiri Patera to waivers (to the Boston Bruins) just 3 months after signing him in free agency. And Aatu Raty lined up between Nils Hoglander and Connor Garland on the Canucks' third line at practice.

We talked about all of the Canucks news from the day: the rosters cuts, the full practice (with actual forward lines and d-pairings), and JT Miller breaking his silence about his absence from preseason games.

An undermanned Canucks squad were defeated by Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 in overtime.

Kevin Lankinen was decent in goal, and both Kiefer Sherwood and Daniel Sprong were noticeable.

The Canucks have one more preseason game before the regular season begins next week.

The Canucks signed Vilmer Alriksson to a three-year entry level contract, and also made a number of roster moves ahead of their final two preseason games (both against the Oilers).

We talk about Aatu Raty's chances of making the team, and try to predict if JT Miller will ever play a preseason game again.

Newcomers Jake Debrusk, Daniel Sprong, Kiefer Sherwood, and Vincent Desharnais all factored into the scoring as the Canucks picked up a 4-3 overtime win over the Calgary Flames in a game played in Abbotsford.

After recapping the game, I bring on a special guest to greet her a happy birthday.

Arturs Silovs, Jonathan Lekkerimaki, and Aatu Raty all had strong games as the Canucks defeated the Seattle Kraken 3-1 in preseason play.

The Canucks will face the Calgary Flames in Abbotsford on Wednesday night.

Goaltender Thatcher Demko spoke to the media today about the mysterious injury that has hampered his practice time over the summer. As well, Canucks training camp began with three different groups taking the ice.

Rick Tocchet, Patrik Allvin, and Jim Rutherford met with the media on the eve of Canucks training camp. They gave updates on Thatcher Demko, Dakota Joshua, Teddy Blueger, and Cole McWard.

We talked about how Dakota Joshua's absence (announced today) will affect training camp and the battle for an opening night roster spot. As well, we reflected on Alex Edler's career and his legacy as a Vancouver Canuck.

Also, I give a quick bowling update as I returned to my Tuesday night league after a one-year absence.
