Discover how Dispatch Goods transforms restaurant takeout waste into reusable resources, improving efficiency & reducing environmental impact.
Led by CEO Lindsey Hoell, Dispatch Goods provides a reusable container logistics service for restaurants aiming to increase sustainability and the quality of their takeout food presentation.
Below are two excerpts from the podcast.
"Dispatch Goods is focused on solving the reverse logistics of reuse. It has become increasingly apparent that the culture of throw away is problematic from both a health and environmental perspective. We aim to solve for reusability through the lens of addressing the challenges associated with collecting, sorting, processing, cleaning, and redistributing reusable packages."
"We are looking to offer a pickup service that is comparable to the weekly recycling to which we have all become accustomed. In the case of higher-end restaurants, some of our restaurant partners have decided to build the “avocado upcharge” into their menu prices and offer the service as the default take-out option. Nonetheless, we have been able to demonstrate that our reusable service can boost restaurant revenue with the positive PR that they receive."

Learn how BayoTech delivers on-site hydrogen as a service, reducing emissions, increasing energy access, & enabling industrial decarbonization.
Led by CEO Mo Vargas, BayoTech provides on-site hydrogen supply for industrial customers at an industry-leading carbon intensity and economic rate using a pay-as-you-go model that reduces upfront capital costs.
Below are two excerpts from the podcast.
"Our basic goal is to provide low to zero-carbon hydrogen at the cheapest cost possible. We primarily offer this through a service called BayoGaaS wherein we build, own, operate, and finance projects and then sell that to the end-user which reduces the upfront capital cost to the customer. Our onsite generators have a lower carbon intensity than many of the traditional offerings such as electrolyzers due to the reduction in transportation and conversion losses."
"The two primary concerns are carbon intensity and cost. On the carbon intensity front, customers are often overwhelmed by ESG concerns and the need to adopt cleaner solutions. There are many cool applications of clean technology and hydrogen, but the notion that an industrial customer needs to get into the hydrogen production business can be daunting. We simplify this with our BayoGaaS offering. On the cost side, we know that the industry is primarily motivated and moved by the least cost solution. We can produce hydrogen at less than $2 per kilogram, which is far lower than the majority of the industry and makes our offering extremely compelling to customers."

Discover how David Energy optimizes retail power & storage integration, generating new revenue streams & delivering low-cost electricity.
Led by James McGinniss, David Energy operates as both an electricity retailer and behind-the-meter energy storage aggregator allowing the company to more accurately predict and control energy consumption thereby saving consumers money on their monthly bills through the monetization of their storage assets.
Below are two excerpts from the podcast.
"David Energy is a reference to the classic story of David vs. Goliath, which we believe is representative of the emergence of the individual electricity consumer with the rise of distributed energy systems that prioritize consumers over big centralized utilities."
"David Energy is essentially a wealth manager for customers’ energy assets such as batteries. Ultimately, we buy power in wholesale markets with the consumer insight that is provided by the data from our network of customers who have granted us access to their devices. This allows us to more accurately predict and control consumption and pass the consequent savings directly to customers. By doing so, we monetize these assets, through our certification as an electricity retailer, when they are not needed for home backup energy. This makes us different than a standalone software provider that would not have the access to electricity markets to truly enable many of the services we provide."

Learn how Emrgy deploys small-scale hydro systems that deliver reliable energy, zero environmental impact, & scalable deployment.
Led by Emily Morris, Emrgy is deploying high capacity factor next-generation distributed and modular hydropower technology.
Below are two excerpts from the podcast.
"To understand Emrgy’s approach to hydropower, first, forget everything you think you know about hydro! Most people think of hydro as a mature technology that requires large waterways and big construction budgets and long timelines. We change that by focusing on low-cost, standardized, and durable projects installed with an emphasis on distributed and modular generation facilities."
"Our modular generation facilities are each about the size of a large SUV and cost between $35,000 and $50,000. These modules generate electricity with a spinning turbine in much the same way that a windmill would generate electricity. Our primary market to this point has been in the Western US, where the relative lack of accessible water creates the need to move water longer distances, thus creating canals and surface water infrastructure sites in which we can generate electricity. We believe that water has an important role to play in the future of energy for its capacity factor that is higher and more predictable than both solar and wind."

Discover how AgShift uses AI & computer vision to optimize food quality, minimize waste, & increase operational efficiency.
Led by CEO Mike Jha, AgShift reduces agriculture and food waste through better quality control by using AI and the Internet of Things.
Below are two excerpts from the podcast.
"Our mission is to reduce food waste. We apply the latest innovations in technology such as the Internet of Things, computer vision and artificial intelligence as a means of expression intended to achieve this mission. We automate the quality assessment and grading process for the food industry. Quality is a fundamental concept for the food industry, and we are designing the protocols to make this process better, faster, more consistent and digitized. Ultimately, it is much easier to reduce food waste than it is to increase food production."
"We primarily offer our solutions as a software as a service model (SaaS) with an annual subscription. Because our technology is based on artificial intelligence algorithms that run in the background and perform much of the quality assessment analysis, we think this model makes the most sense. We are flexible with customers who may prefer to pay more upfront and less over time, and we can also lease our hardware rather than sell it directly to customers."

Learn how Buoyant Ventures backs startups using digital tools to reduce emissions, scale climate solutions, & drive environmental impact.
Led by General Managing Director Amy Francetic, Buoyant Ventures seeks to invest in early-stage digital climate mitigation and climate adaptation-focused companies.
Below are two excerpts from the podcast.
"We are focused on early-stage digital climate tech solutions. We are looking for software and low-cost hardware that can be layered upon existing infrastructure. In addition to our digital focus, we are also unique in our focus on both climate adaptation and mitigation."
"I started working in the high-tech industry in California. My first job out of school was working at a video game company. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot about software. I then worked at Hasbro before running a toy company that we then sold to Lego in 2000. Around the same time, I was diagnosed with cancer which forced me to focus on what mattered to me. After beating cancer and having our daughters with my husband I decided to devote my career to the climate tech space given both the financial opportunity but more importantly the chance to make a positive impact on the world. In many ways, this is what I most respect about the young people looking to get into the space now. They have been able to have this dual mission of doing well financially while keeping the bigger impact picture in mind."
