In this podcast, Dr. Rae Yeung talks about a 10-year-old boy who was diagnosed with pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome (PIMS) temporally associated with COVID-19. This syndrome, which goes by many names, has a wide spectrum that can include prolonged fever, classic features of Kawasaki disease, cardiac dysfunction, and gastrointestinal, neurologic, and/or renal involvement. Dr. Yeung discusses how she and her team treated the boy, what the ongoing management strategies are and what is currently known about PIMS associated with COVID-19.
Dr. Yeung is a pediatrician, professor of paediatrics, immunology and medical science at the University of Toronto, and a senior scientist in cell biology research at The Hospital For Sick Children in Toronto.
