During the past 20 years, the brain trauma community’s approach to guideline development has evolved as the science and application of evidence-based medicine has advanced. This new iteration of the guidelines reflects the most current methodologic standards and establishes more rigorous procedures for future work. As a result, the guidelines include changes in the evaluation of previous work, an increase in the quality of the included studies, and essential improvements in the precision of the recommendations.
