This week on Hysteria 51, we’re diving headfirst into the weird-news deep end, and unfortunately, someone already ruined the water. First up, a public swimming pool in Wales becomes the scene of a truly unholy whodunnit after a man admits to repeatedly defecating in the pool, forcing closures, cleanups, refunds, and presumably one very traumatized lifeguard whistle. It’s part crime story, part community crisis, and part reason to never open your mouth during backstroke again.

Then we cleanse the palate with something ancient, mysterious, and significantly less chlorinated: the incredible story of the Wollemi pine, a so-called “living fossil” believed to have vanished millions of years ago until a park ranger found a secret stand of the dinosaur-era trees hidden in an Australian canyon. With fewer than 100 mature wild trees known to exist, classified coordinates, fungus fears, and a lineage older than T. rex, this tree might be the closest nature gets to yelling, “Surprise, nerds, I’m still here!”
