Twitch streamer and famous YouTuber Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt has had his zackrawrr account banned after a racist rant about Muslims and Palestinians killed in Gaza went viral on social media. “My bad,” he shared on X (formerly Twitter) following an online backlash. “Looking back on it, I was way too much of an asshole about the Palestine thing.” His other Twitch channel, Asmongold, remains up.

Leftist streamer Hasan “Hasanabi” Piker, who’s been an outspoken advocate for Palestinian rights for years, invited Hoyt onto his own channel to rebut his comments and push back on the racist rhetoric. Hoyt later backed off his original remarks, but stopped short of saying he was wrong.

TikTok faces new lawsuits filed by 13 U.S. states and the District of Columbia on Tuesday, accusing the popular social media platform of harming and failing to protect young people.

The lawsuits filed separately in New York, California, the District of Columbia and 11 other states, expand Chinese-owned TikTok's legal fight with U.S. regulators, and seek new financial penalties against the company.

The states accuse TikTok of using intentionally addictive software designed to keep children watching as long and often as possible and misrepresenting its content moderation effectiveness.

"TikTok cultivates social media addiction to boost corporate profits," California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a statement. "TikTok intentionally targets children because they know kids do not yet have the defenses or capacity to create healthy boundaries around addictive content."

TikTok seeks to maximize the amount of time users spend on the app in order to target them with ads, the states say.

"Young people are struggling with their mental health because of addictive social media platforms like TikTok," said New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody has received more than 200 complaints about price gouging as many thousands of residents prepared to evacuate from Hurricane Milton.

As of Monday, most of the complaints are about fuel and water, said Kylie Mason, Moody's spokesperson. The top three counties for complaints are Highlands, Hillsborough and Pinellas, she added.

There were also scattered instances involving overnight accommodations, including one Airbnb listing of a "room in Tallahassee" for nearly $6,000 a night.

"Our team already reached out to our (Airbnb) corporate contact and tracked down the owner," Mason said. "We are sharing a copy of the price gouging statute ... and making them aware of their legal responsibility." (An Airbnb spokesperson on Wednesday countered that "the price for that listing has been the same for over two years. It was not changed in response to recent natural disasters.")

Unity hasn’t had the easiest go of things as of late, but as part of its efforts to get back in the good graces of game developers, the company has released Unity 6 globally. In addition to new features like tools that let developers to target mobile web, the game engine maker is also promising that it will dedicate “long-term” resources to “to enhance feature sets and deliver new functionality while maintaining ease of upgrade and continued stability,” according to a press release.

Unity is a widely-used game development engine powering games like Among Us, Hollow Knight, and many more, but the release of Unity 6 follows a turbulent period in the company’s history. Unity charges developers on a per-user basis, but in September 2023, the company announced a new pricing scheme that charged developers per install of their games after a certain threshold. The change could have potentially added significant costs for developers, and many expressed significant frustrations.

The notable Vtuber Ironmouse has become the new queen of Twitch. The streamer broke the world record for the highest number of active subscribers on Twitch on Monday. According to a widget on her channel, she now has more than 312,000 subscribers, surpassing the record previously set by Kai Cenat in Spring 2023. The creator set the new record on day 30 of a “subathon” event where she has been streaming for more than 30 days straight and raising money for the Immune Deficiency Foundation.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been delayed to 2025, Ubisoft announced Wednesday ahead of an update on its financial targets. Ubisoft said that the game is “feature complete,” but that the company considered the “softer than expected” reception of Star Wars Outlaws in deciding the delay.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows was set to be previewed by media soon, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said on a conference call, but the company wants to make sure the game meets ambitions. (Those preview events have since been canceled.) The “learnings” from Star Wars Outlaws “led [Ubisoft] to provide additional time to further polish the title,” the publisher said in a news release. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will now be released Feb. 14, 2025, on all platforms, including Steam. (Star Wars Outlaws has yet to be released on Steam, but is scheduled for Nov. 21.)

“This will enable the biggest entry in the franchise to fully deliver on its ambition, notably by fulfilling the promise of our dual protagonist adventure, with Naoe and Yasuke bringing two very different gameplay styles,” Ubisoft said in a news release.

How did the pagers explode?

As Lebanon reels from the attack, speculation has mounted on how low-tech wireless communication devices could have been exploited.

Citing American and other officials briefed on the operation, the New York Times reported Tuesday that Israel hid explosives inside a batch of pagers ordered from Taiwanese manufacturer Gold Apollo and destined for Hezbollah. A switch was embedded to detonate them remotely, it added.

Multiple photos from Lebanon on social media appear to show damaged Gold Apollo pagers.

CNN cannot geolocate the images from social media but has verified they were published on Tuesday, the same day as the explosions. At least one pager shown in the images was a Gold Apollo AR924 model.

Gold Apollo founder Hsu Ching-kuang said its European distributor, a Hungary-based company called BAC Consulting, established a relationship with the Taiwanese firm about three years ago.

1. This debate wasn’t close.

The majority of the focus coming into Tuesday was about how Harris would handle her first-ever presidential debate with someone who had been on this stage many times. Could she answer questions about her position shifts; parry attacks from Trump, someone who tries to be the alpha on these stages; could she answer the attack that she’s light on policy; and could she appear “presidential”?

She may have seemed nervous at first, but she quickly found her voice and more than acquitted herself well. All of those questions were quickly dispatched:

She explained her shift on fracking (“My position is that we have got to invest in diverse sources of energy, so we reduce our reliance on foreign oil”).

Harris was far more dominant than Trump, from beginning to end. She called him “weak and wrong,” inverting the political cliché that “strong and wrong” beats “weak and right.” Harris answered questions, then redirected and baited him on a host of issues.

She got under Trump’s skin — something he usually tries to do — by saying that people at his rallies leave “early out of exhaustion and boredom,” painting him as out of touch and a bad businessman for inheriting $400 million “on a silver platter and then filed for bankruptcy six times,” and chiding him for being “fired by 81 million people” in the 2020 election and now being “confused” about losing.

Harris addressed policy, including tax breaks for small businesses and parents and touting her idea for a first-time home-buyer credit for down payments. She repeatedly said, “I have a plan,” while Trump was left saying, “I have concepts of a plan” when it comes to replacing the Affordable Care Act.
