  • Q&A: Body Image, Diet and Exercise Obsession Part 2

Today’s episode is Part 2 of episode 64, on how I overcame my body obsession. Chasing goals and having big aspirations is great. It’s important to take control of your life and act deliberately on the things that you want. However, when you begin to become obsessed, it can pull you away from you happiness, family and friends. This is especially relevant in fitness world. If you begin to feel that you’re missing out on your life because you’re worried that participating in your community will distract you from your diet and exercise goals you need to reassess your purpose. In this episode I answer listener questions and address how I overcame my eating and exercising obsession by re-evaluating what was important to me.

Key Takeaway: It’s good to be driven and have serious goals but not at the cost of missing out on your life and not participating with your family and friends.

    Highlights:

    • Finding balance between reaching your goals and becoming obsessed
    • Reaching goals but also being pulled apart from family and friends
    • When your goals begin to take away from the quality of your life
    • Saying no to things you really want to say yes to
    • Skinner isn’t necessarily better
    • Finding confidence in who you are as a person, not how you look
    • Under eating and over eating
    • Feeling empowered and loving yourself

  • A Guide to the Enneagram for Personal Growth with Torre Mower

Self reflection is the first step to creating a better version of yourself. In today’s episode, I’m doing a deep dive into different personality types with Torre Mower, a co-creator of the viral Instagram account @socialenneagram. This account examines the Enneagram, which is a personality typing system that classifies different characteristics with a number ranging from 1 to 9. With Torre’s expertise, we gain some valuable insights on the traits within each of these numbers and the vibrant community surrounding the Enneagram. But this isn’t your typical personality test. On the contrary, this can be used as a powerful tool of self reflection and can provide insights on the behavior of others.

Key Takeaway: The Enneagram is a tool that can be used to reflect on your actions, but it should never be used to justify negative behaviors.

    Highlights:

    • Creating a conversation around the social aspects of the Enneagram
    • Torre and her husband, Justin, run the Instagram account @socialenneagram and provide classes on the complexities of the Enneagram
    • The Enneagram is made up of nine different personality types
    • One of the easiest ways to identify your number is to research the negative traits of each number
    • Ground rules surrounding this community include: don’t type other people, no number is better or worse than another number, and the Enneagram should not be used as a scapegoat for negative behaviors
    • A break down of the healthy and unhealthy traits of each number
    • Finding your number and using it as a tool to create a better version of yourself

  • How Hitting Rock Bottom Can Help You Rise to the Top with Molly Stillman

Through darkness comes light and on today’s episode I’m talking to Molly Stillman about how hitting rock bottom helped her rise to the top. Molly is the host of the Business with Purpose podcast as well as the Still Being Molly blog, both aimed towards inspiring women to live a life of purpose.

While Molly is now a successful business owner and leader in the women’s community, life wasn’t always this way. Molly’s mother died during Molly’s senior year of high school. It was due to Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam where she was working as a nurse to our troops. This led her down a dark path where she used spending money as coping mechanism. After getting $36,000 dollars in debt and still not having processed her grief, Molly felt hopeless, alone and like she had hit rock bottom.

Key Takeaway: Understand that it is ok to ask for help.

    Highlights:

    • Opening up about dark times
    • Growing up fast, by taking care of mom
    • Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam
    • Unprocessed grief
    • Getting $36,000 into debt
    • Feeling incapable of success
    • Meeting future husband and attending church
    • Deciding what is worth your time
    • Manifesting greatness and stopping doubts

  • Why I Love to Fail

It’s okay to fail. Failing does not make you a failure. Most people believe failure to be the opposite of success, but this couldn’t be the further from the truth. Failure is not the opposite of success, failure is essential for success. In today’s podcast I share my personal story of overcoming my fear of failure and share with you how important failure is for succeeding.

Key Takeaway: You’re going to fail and your going to fall. The important thing is to learn from your failures and keep pushing forward.

    Highlights:

    • Most people are concerned about what their family and friends will think if they start a new venture
    • Letting go of your doubts
    • Giving up too soon
    • Learning from failure, not success
    • From great risk comes great reward
    • Diets should be specific to the individual
    • Overcomplicating and assumptions

  • What is Functional Medicine?
Have you seen doctor after doctor and your health issue still is not resolved? Has your doctor just put a bandaid over your symptom without determining the root cause? If so, maybe seeing a functional medicine doctor is right for you! In this episode of Coffee & Kettlebells, Dr. John Bartemus explains the different approaches between functional medicine versus mainstream medicine and how one buys you health and the other just buys you time.

    Highlights:

    • Medication are band aids for your symptoms and doesn’t address the root cause of the symptom.
    • Functional medicine treats a patient whereas traditional medicine treats a symptom
    • Diseases manifest differently and look differently in each person
    • Diets should be specific to the individual
    • Following a specific protocol lead to assumptions
