Coffee, Theology, and Jesus

This week Tim and Jordan have Sharon on to discuss Christian Grieving.  This is one of those topics that is part of the human experience that even the Lord Himself displayed at times (think of Jesus weeping at the tomb of Lazarus in John 11).  Dealing with grief is different for everyone so we brought Sharon on to discuss her recent (and still current) season of grief in the passing of her mom due to cancer.  Tim and Jordan discuss her grief, how God helps in these times, and how a church community should support someone grieving.  We hope this helps you in these difficult seasons of life. This week we don’t have a guest but we wanted to take the time to discuss the public prayer of Representative Stephanie Borowicz prior to the swearing in of Representative Movita Johnson-Harrell.  Of course this prayer leads us into a broader discussion of the gospel and the appropriate means of communicating it as well as prayer in general.

This week we have guest Matt Taylor on to discuss Israel.  Matt is currently in the military but also started a drone cinematography business and was part of the filming crew of a project called Covenant and Controversy.  With Matt’s experience of being in the middle east for filming and seeing the current status of the conflict first hand we had him on to discuss Israel and the church.  What is the current situation like?  Is peace a possibility? Should a modern Christian care about Israel?  What side of this hot topic should we fall on?  We discuss all of this and more with Matt!

We are about two weeks into the Lenten season this year so this week we have Paul Gutaker back on the show to discuss Lent.  We wanted to talk about what it is, what is the purpose, what should we do, and the application personally and corporately in the church.  As always, we find ourselves talking about a lot of the surrounding issues but discover some good guidelines for our attitude and activities during this particular season.

We are going Catholic!  Well, not really us… we have Russ Wills on to discuss his experience in going from the Protestant Evangelical side of Christianity to Catholicism (aka the Dark Side).  We wanted to get his perspective on the “deal breakers” that most evangelicals are taught against Catholicism and see what we can learn.  While we hadn’t the time to cover every topic, we had an open and honest discussion on salvation and works, praying to saints, infant baptism, and more.

Sabbath for Christians?!?

This week we cover the topic of Sabbath in the believer’s life.  We try to answer the question, could the intention of Sabbath in the OT law have application to believers living today in a post Jesus age?  We have a special guest, Paul Gutaker, on this episode to aid the discussion of developing a mindset that looks back to the OT roots and use it to practice Sabbath even today.
