January 15, 2020Cogitations e153: about a weak OSAS argument"OSAS" stands for, once saved always saved. This podcast deals with an argument I saw on the facebook recently. There are so many who buy into these one off taken out of context single phrase from a single verse arguments. They go their whole lives never really experiencing the fullness of Scripture. Take a listen and let me know of one weak arguments you have encountered. If you like what we do, www.patreon.com/nearchurches...more22minPlay
January 14, 2020Cogitations e152: about the prodigal son memeI shared a meme in the WTT group asking if anything stood out as being wrong or not substantive. Many folk commented but no one picked the obvious nor put the parable of the prodigal son in its context. I cannot find a way to share the meme here in the show notes but it read: Jesus told the story of the prodigal son to make a simple point: never mind what you've done, just come home. That is a feel good thought and it is a biblical truism that regardless of what we have done we can make it right with our Father. However, that is not the reason for the telling of the parable of the prodigal son. Take a listen and find out exactly what point Jesus was making with the telling of this timeless parable. January 11, 2020Cogitations e151: about Paul's sinWhen the apostle Paul took a vow and allowed an animal sacrifice on his behalf at the temple in Jerusalem, did he sin? I say, yes. In this podcast we discuss exactly what that means to us. I hope you like it. Take a listen and let me know what you think.
