It's another day of Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle, and this one is all over the place—in the best possible way.

We're out and about in Milwaukee, talking sports, shopping, food, family, the city, and whatever else catches our attention along the way. We talk about the Milwaukee Bucks, the upcoming football season, the Brewers, Chicago sports fans, and what Milwaukee sports might look like going forward. But the conversation gets more serious when we talk about racism and a group of protesters in Waukesha. We make an important distinction: criticizing racist behavior doesn't mean labeling an entire community or every person who lives there. We talk about stereotypes, racism, representation, and why people shouldn't be judged simply because of where they live or what they look like.

And then, because this is Cold World, we're right back to everyday life—running errands, El Rey, Trader Joe's, food, sanitizer, childhood meals, new construction around Milwaukee, and all the little observations that turn an ordinary day into a conversation. We also get plenty of laughs, random conversations, Milwaukee stories, and those completely unfiltered moments that make this show what it is.

This episode of Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle takes us on a trip through history—and then brings the conversation right back to the real world.

We dive deep into the history of the Pullman Porters, the Black men who worked aboard Pullman sleeping cars and became a major part of the story of Black labor, economic advancement, and the development of a Black middle class. We talk about the harsh working conditions, low wages, racial discrimination, segregated railroad jobs, and the degrading practice of refusing to recognize Black porters by their own names.

We also explore the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, A. Philip Randolph, the fight for union recognition, and how that struggle became connected to the broader labor and civil rights movements. The episode looks at how workers organized despite intimidation and the risk of losing the jobs they depended on.

And because this is Cold World, we don't stay in the history books all day.

We take a look at real DUI traffic stops, including a mother pulled over with her daughter in the vehicle, and talk about the dangers of drinking or using drugs and getting behind the wheel. The bigger point isn't entertainment—it's accountability and hopefully making somebody think twice before making a decision that could change multiple lives forever. There's also plenty of everyday life mixed in—laundry, coffee, Chewie, apartment life, music, movies, and those random conversations that somehow turn into something much bigger.

This episode of Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle goes everywhere—and that's exactly how we like it.

We start with a tense police interview involving a teacher accused of inappropriate contact with a student. We hear the allegations, the teacher's response, the questions from investigators, and his willingness to take a polygraph as he tries to defend himself.

From there, the conversation takes plenty of turns. We get into addiction, bad decisions, personal responsibility, and why having your own mistakes and struggles can change the way you look at other people's lives. DVJ gets candid about his own past and explains why he doesn't believe in automatically judging someone based on what substance they're struggling with.

And of course, there's plenty of everyday Cold World—Milwaukee, grocery shopping, Walmart, breakfast burritos, slippers, pets, relationships, football, music, and the random conversations that somehow turn into much bigger discussions. What starts out as another day of everyday life turns into a deep dive into some seriously disturbing stories coming out of Wisconsin.

In this episode of Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle, we're talking about a little bit of everything—life after prison, politics, crime, cold cases, music, the strange things we encounter in everyday life, and the stories that make you stop and say, “Wait…WHAT?”

DVJ runs into someone he remembers from being incarcerated, and their conversation turns into a powerful discussion about life after prison, parole, second chances, staying out of trouble, and the years that can never be given back. After spending seven years and three months incarcerated and 13 years on parole, he has finally reached a point where he can move forward with his life.

Then we get into some disturbing Wisconsin crime stories.

One story involves investigators discovering human skulls and skeletal remains at a Wisconsin property, along with books, documents and memorabilia connected to murders and serial killers. Authorities were working to determine whether the remains were modern, historical, Native American archaeological remains, or connected to additional crimes.

And then there's a 50-year-old Wisconsin cold case.

A woman who was hitchhiking from Minneapolis to Chicago was found stabbed to death in Dunn County in 1974. Decades later, investigators used DNA and genetic genealogy to identify an 84-year-old suspect. According to the criminal complaint discussed in the episode, investigators confronted him with DNA evidence, and he allegedly confessed to picking up the woman before fatally stabbing her.

We also talk about the Milwaukee connection to the Sade Robinson case, including the fact that she had previously lived in the same building.

And because this is Cold World, we don't stay serious the entire time. 😂

Can you truly understand someone else's experience if you've never had to live it?

That's one of the questions at the center of this episode of Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle.

We start with something completely ordinary: a Thursday morning in Milwaukee.

Coffee is brewing.

Chewy is hanging out.

Laundry needs to be done.

The weather is changing.

Football season is almost here.

And DVJ is doing what DVJ does—talking to you while he's getting ready for the day. 😂

But underneath the everyday conversation is something much bigger.

RACE. POWER. AND LIVED EXPERIENCE.

We play clips from the late Neely Fuller Jr., whose work focused heavily on racism, white supremacy and the ways systems of power can influence virtually every area of society.

His words lead us into a conversation about racism, stereotypes, power, Black identity and the way people can see the world through completely different lenses.

And we ask what they mean in today's world.

What does racism look like when it's not obvious?

How can a system influence people's opportunities and experiences?

And what happens when people dismiss something as “not happening” simply because they personally haven't experienced it?

Those are uncomfortable questions.

But they're worth having.

❤️ THEN SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT HAPPENS.

While out running errands, DVJ unexpectedly reconnects with a man he remembers from his past.

The conversation becomes one of the most meaningful moments of the episode.

The man explains that he had spent seven years and three months incarcerated, followed by 13 years on parole, and had recently completed his supervision without returning to jail.

He talks about finally being free, working, staying close to his family and girlfriend, and trying to stay away from the trouble that previously pulled him back into the system.

And then comes the part that really sticks with you:

You can't get that time back.

He reflects on losing years of his life while incarcerated—years that could have been spent making memories, creating things and simply being free.

It's a reminder that a criminal sentence doesn't end when someone walks out of prison.

The clock doesn't rewind.

In this episode of Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle, we dig into several real-world cases involving racial discrimination in the workplace and ask a question that still matters:

We begin with a case involving Diversified Maintenance Systems, where the EEOC alleged that Black applicants were discouraged from applying and that managers were instructed not to hire African American candidates without special permission. The agency also alleged that a Black supervisor was subjected to repeated racial slurs and retaliation after complaining about the treatment.

Then we bring the conversation closer to home.

We discuss a Milwaukee McDonald's franchise that settled an EEOC race-discrimination claim after allegations that Black applicants were refused employment because of their race. The case resulted in monetary relief and requirements intended to reform the company's hiring practices.

We also discuss a case involving pregnant and nursing employees and allegations that women were denied reasonable accommodations—including lifting restrictions and appropriate spaces and breaks for pumping breast milk.

We talk about what happens when people aren't simply discriminated against—but retaliated against for speaking up.

What happens when complaining about discrimination costs you your job?

What happens when management knows what's happening and does nothing?

And what does it say about a workplace when employees have to fight just to receive the same basic respect and opportunities as everyone else?

The episode also takes a serious turn as we discuss the Boston police shooting of Stevenson King, the criminal case against Officer Nicholas O'Malley, the sealing of body-camera and dash-camera footage, and the legal battle over releasing that evidence to the public.

We talk about the difficult questions surrounding police use of force, mental-health crises, transparency and accountability.

We discuss the engineering of the World Trade Center towers, how the airplane impacts and resulting fires affected the buildings, and the long-running conspiracy theories surrounding the attacks.

We talk about the idea of a controlled demolition and what demolition experts said would actually have been required to prepare the towers for one.
