St. Vincent de Paul, a 17th century priest from France, dedicated his life to serving the poor and less fortunate. His impact is still felt today. What is your calling? What has your life been like, and how is the Lord calling you to glorify Him through it? 

Homily for the 26th Sunday of Ordinary Time

Jesus calls us to cut off the “hand” and pluck out the “eye” in our life that causes us sin. He is telling us what is needed in order to change the direction of our lives. We are called to detach ourselves from the things getting in the way of heaven and make a u-turn when possible.

Where we’re going affects the choices we make. Are we putting ourselves in situations that set us up for failure or success? Jesus calls us to cut off the “hand” and pluck out the “eye” in our life that causes us sin. What are the things in our lives that need to be cut out, and what are the ways that we can do little things with great love?

We do not take a lamp and place it under a bushel basket. But, which light is shining? Our actions speak for us, and reveal light. But which light are we revealing? The light of ourselves, or the light of Christ?

That which we do the least of those around us, we do for Jesus. And as He is hungry, naked, and in need of clothing, He calls us to serve Him and give of ourselves, just as he gave of Himself on the cross. His love conquered all things on Calvary, and His love manifests today through our actions and acts of charity. Let us allow our faith and hope in the Resurrection guide our choices, and may we choose to love.

There are many defining moments of our lives, and many of them will forever stick in our memories. In the midst of Hurricane Ida, a defining moment for so many in our area, we have an opportunity to be Jesus to others.

Homily for the Twenty-First Sunday of Ordinary Time.

The bridesmaids and groomsmen help prepare the bride and groom for the wedding and journey beyond. Today we are called to be ready for Christ, just as the virgins were ready for the Bridegroom. St. Monica's life is an excellent example of one lives as a bridesmaid for Jesus.
