The story of the infamous Charles Barkley shirt swap continues into Episode 2 of Season 3 of the BHHcast, as your shepherds Jamie Bendall, Adam Haigh and Jamie Hernan welcome Ali Kulmer to the show. Ali is the wife of Mark Kulmer, our guest on Episode 1 of Season 3 and widely thought to be the one who initiated the shirt swap with Sir Charles. But, the BHHcast gets down to the fine details of the event with Ali and finds out Charles Barkley might have initiated the conversation. Ali's appearance represents the first time the BHHcast has welcome a guest married to a former guest.
In 2013, Ali, her husband Mark and co-host of the BHHcast Adam Haigh were enjoying an evening at the Four Seasons hotel bar in Atlanta, Georgia when they encountered Charles Barkley, Laurence Fishburne and a mystery man in an orange suit. As Ali, Mark and Adam were on their way out of the bar, Charles may have made an innocent comment or two to Ali about the fact that she was pleasing to the eyes. Barkley mentioned to Ali's husband, Mark, that his shirt was ugly, to which Mark suggested that the honorable thing to do was for Barkley to trade shirts with him because Barkley couldn't let Mark have to leave the bar with his beautiful wife while wearing an ugly shirt. Laurence Fishburne agreed with the logic and Chuck, being the good sport that he is, agreed to the famous swap. We learned in Episode 1 of Season 3 that Charles Barkley's publicist (seated a table or two over) didn't think it was the best idea, but Sir Charles stepped up anyways.
Ali also talks to the guys about what it is like raising two daughters, one of whom is an elite level ballerina. Ali and Mark's oldest daughter, Isabella (Instagram), is a Royal School of Ballet International Scholar. Adam has had the joy of knowing Ali, Mark and their kids seemingly forever and shares with everyone how cool Ali and Mark's youngest daughter, Ava, is as well. While Isabella is practicing ballet, Ava is likely to be found at the skate park or chilling at the beach.
The BHHcast reached out to representatives of Charles Barkley and Laurence Fishburne to invite them to be guests on the show to discuss the story. The representatives of Charles Barkley initially responded but did not get back to us with a yes or no so who knows - maybe we'll have an update to this episode with an interview with Sir Charles. Laurence Fishburne's reps gave us a hard, but polite, pass. The man in the orange suit remains unidentified.
