Commander ad Populum

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week, I go deep on why cards get chosen to go into decks. I use specific examples from my very own Pramikon, Persistent Petitioners build. If anyone is interested in seeing the build in a digital space, let me know on Twitter. I can get it entered and posted up on my social platforms.

This week's set retrospective was supposed to be Apocalypse but I simply ran out of time! We've conclude the Invasion Block next week if I don't have a date finalized with my next guest. It's going to be great interview so I'm OK with pushing Apocalypse back another week! Do not miss it!

If you'd like to give me your thoughts on today's topics, hit me up on Twitter @CadPopCast. You can find me on Facebook, here: Facebook.com/CadPopCast. Both the Twitter and Facebook feeds have threads for each episode of Commander ad Populum. Let me know what you think.

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week, I discuss supporting local gaming stores and a recent experience that would not have been possible without my own, very welcoming game store. It's important that we, as a community keep these places alive.

This week's set retrospective: Planeshift. The second set in the Invasion Block. A set packed to the brim with flavor and potential hidden gems.

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week, I discuss committing to things for the long haul. It's not about going hard as soon as a certain time of year hits. It's about consistent lifestyle choices that raise the ground floor of life. Of course, complete with many Magic: the Gathering and Commander-specific references to break things down for the Magic community.

This week's set retrospective: Invasion! My favorite set of all time! Invasion represents the set that I truly embraced the game and became a Magic: the Gathering player. There are a ton of great gems in this set. Join me to hear all about them.

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week, I share some of my favorite holiday snacks and drinks to indulge in with friends and family over the holidays. Of course, I touch on how best to pair them with Commander as well! I touch on some best practices for consumption over the holidays and how to keep yourself and your cards safe. I'd like to wish all of the Commander ad Populum family and listeners a very marry holiday season, whatever that means to you! I hope that some of my suggestions go to good use while you celebrate with friends, family and games of Commander.

This week's set retrospective: Prophecy!

Like Nemesis before it, there isn't a whole ton of great Commander cards, save for a few. There's always positives to look back on during the holiday season though! Join me to find out what I come up with.

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week, I highlight a couple other creators who I think are doing a great job in the community. Both for their approach and philosophy on the format of Commander, but also because they are great people who are sharing a great message for the community at large. They are Anton, over at Collective Voyage (https://allhailbolas.tumblr.com/), @AllHailBolas on Twitter. And, Brian Canada from Cure for the Common game, over on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClCQJ7i0H5t_AoVGzdKePKw). He is @Cure_Game on Twitter.

This week's technical section talk about being OK with leaving some value on the table and not beating yourself up over it. Magic is not a game of perfect information. We're going to make mistakes. If we recognize that there can be learning when we make mistakes, we can move towards improvement as a player.

This week's set retrospective: Nemesis! Not the most Commander-friendly set of all time, but there are some gems I would encourage people to try in their decks.

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week, I conclude my chat with Joey Schultz. Writer/editor for EDHREC.com and host of EDHRECast. We touch on the holidays, representation in Magic and possible plans for MagicFest Seattle.

Joey's work can be found all over EDHREC.com. Go check him out today! EDHRECast is particularly good, as well. A must-listen-to cast for all Commander players.

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week, I tell the story of a listener from The Netherlands. His name is Mark and he was a major inspiration to me years ago. Mark's name over on the MtGSalvation.com forums all those years ago was Magnus Magicus. Believe it or not Mark, in part, shaped who I am today. You can now find Magnus Magicus on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/magnusmagicus

This week's technical section covers another couple tips for creating and fostering a smooth game play experience. This time, sticking with your gut feeling in the first few turns of the game to make quick, informed and decisive plays.

This week's set retrospective: Mercadian Masques! A nose dive of a set after the powerhouses of Urza block!

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week, I tell the story of a listener from New Zealand. His name is Sam. He plays online, mostly. Oh ya, he's legally blind. I cover the challenges Sam faces along with insecurities that Magic players in general might have. My suggestion was to just go for it. There's plenty of people out there that will accept you for who you are and enjoy playing with you. Regardless of ability and experience.

This week's technical section covers a few tips I have for organizing your battlefield and managing game situations. Like multiple triggered abilities. The goal is to give people ways to make their game-play experience easier. To smooth out how they play. To make playing easier.

No set retrospective this week. I opt for my first ever bi-annual review and update. I look back on the first six months of Commander ad Populum and ahead to some plans for 2020.

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week, I make sure to take a few minutes to acknowledge Remembrance Day and/or Veteran's Day. I talk about a friend of mine who is an active member of the United States Air Force. He mentioned missing his family while overseas as well as bonding with other members of the military through Magic: the Gathering, and specifically, Commander.

This week's technical section is the conclusion to the little experiment that I was conducting over the last couple of months. In game, I asked people why they were doing certain things. I offered them suitable alternatives as a means to change their minds. The final tallies and results are discussed today.

This week's set retrospective: Urza's Destiny! The final set in the Urza block. Be prepared, this set is as powerful as the other two!
