Xolani Gwala comments about the 28s gang boss Ralph Stanfield who drove himself in a white R8 to hospital after gun shots were fired at him near Melrose Arch. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects. Stanfield’s attorney Noorudien Hassan was also murdered earlier this year. There have been a spate of assassinations in Cape Town recently linked to a turf war over control of nightclubs.

As Anglo Gold Ashanti prepares to shed 8 500 jobs in South Africa, Breakfast show host Xolani Gwala says we may need to change the way we view job creation. The mining company confirmed on Wednesday that it may halt some unprofitable operations as it pursues a turnaround in the country. It intends to place its Kopanang mine and the Savuka section of the TauTona mine on care-and-maintenance. Gwala says a solution is needed to curb the already increasing unemployment rate.

South Africa’s femicide rate is 5 times higher than any other country in the world and this has compelled the United  Nations to propose Femicide Watch for the country. This is according to Minister of Arts & Culture Nathi Mthethwa, who was speaking at the anti-femicide imbizo  which was held at the Regina Mundli Catholic Church in Soweto on Friday. Breakfast show host Xolani Gwala reflects on this alarming rate. He says “we need to keep an eye on the detail on such important stories and he asks why should we have a femicide rate that is 5 times higher than any other in the world, surely something must be done. “

University of Cape Town’s newly launched Youth Explorer portal shows how 63% of youths in South Africa do not have internet access at home, with Gauteng being the only province where those with access are in the majority as only 48% of youth lack internet access at home. Breakfast show host Xolani Gwala says “There are a number of reasons around this, I remember a study by Icasa, and they said that the main reasons many South Africans do not have access to internet at home relates to a lack of interest and skills

A survey by the Institute of Race Relations (IRR) has found that the number of people receiving grants has increased by 328% in 15 years‚ while those with jobs increased by only 24%. This means more South Africans receive grants than have jobs. Breakfast show host Xolani Gwala says “The biggest problem is that we are not hearing any plans coming from government, the biggest problem is that whether you are talking about the Finance Minister or the President, they are both fighting for their political careers.”

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called for an urgent court order against a strike at government mortuaries which has left families frustrated and in despair. Some families have now turned to the courts in an effort to bury their loved ones. Host of the Breakfast show Xolani Gwala asks “Where is the plan here in Gauteng? To have to wait this long, spend money on preparations, somebody must be sensitive, what is the plan?”

The Hawks have been requested to help investigate an alleged human trafficking ring in Gauteng, after a 19-year-old man escaped a trafficking den in Johannesburg. The man alerted the police about 24 young women and men apparently being detained at a house in the city, where they had been drugged, raped and assaulted. 702 Breakfast host, Xolani Gwala, asks “Do we have police units that are able to deal with this and put to an end this brutal abuse of people who are desperately looking for jobs and being used for human trafficking?”
