The local share market has finished a volatile session down 1.9% as Trump appears likely to win the US Presidential race.

U.S. markets started off weaker but as the day has traded on we are seeing improvements.

The US election-led rally continued for the second day on Tuesday, although early gains faded with

the ASX 200 index edging higher by 0.1 per cent after posting its best gain

in four months yesterday. 

The FBI backing off Secretary Clinton’s email

probe for the second time has helped lift the market’s expectations of a

Clinton victory, although buyers retreated as US voting was aset to get underway. Sluggish trade data in China had a negligible impact on the

Australian market. Imports and exports fell more than expected in October.

US sharemarkets posted modest gains with analysts saying that investors were pricing in a Clinton election victory. Financial markets have indicated greater comfort with a Clinton victory as she is seen to offer greater certainty and stability. At the close of trade, the Dow Jones index was up by 73 points or 0.4% after being up by 141 points. The S&P 500 index was up by 0.4% while the Nasdaq was higher by 27 points or 0.5%.

US sharemarkets posted solid gains on Monday. The Federal Bureau of Investigation concluded its investigation into the email practices of Hillary Clinton. Financial markets have indicated greater comfort with a Clinton victory as she has previously served in government. At the close of trade the Dow Jones index finished at the day's highs, up by 371 points or 2.1% . The S&P 500 index was up by 2.2% while the Nasdaq was higher by 120 points or 2.4%.
