President - Angela Freeman, Co Chairs, Karen Britt and Tsopie D. Trottie came by the show to talk about the upcoming Inaugural JRE Lee Scholarship Gala. The Gala projected to be an extra ordinary night with Key Note Speaker Angela Robinson, Actress & Alumi was created to empower our younger generation by providing scholarships for future Baby Rattlers. They talked about their many upcoming events and their drive to get as many students from the VILLE to the HILL.

It take 90 Seconds To Learn How to Save a Life, they encouraged the community to stay empowered by learning lifesaving technics.

Dr. Tiffanie Williams called into Community View Point to talk about Mental Health awareness and the avenues of outlet that the community can take to address the stigmas of mental health. Dr. Tiffanie Williams is an experienced Owner with a demonstrated history of working in the mental health care industry. Skilled in Nonprofit Organizations, Health Informatics, Crisis Intervention, Trauma Therapy, and Family Therapy. Strong business development professional with a Doctor of Health Sciences focused in Health Services/Allied Health/Health Sciences, General from Nova Southeastern University.

Pastor Mattie Riley Hayes called into Community View Point to invite the community to enroll in their upcoming Stem Summer Camp Explosion on 6-1-19. Pastor Hayes, who is a retired educator talked about empowering the community around Greater New Hope A.M.E Church and giving the children in that area another path of empowerment, during the summer vacation.

Jaime Smyth and Max Shafer came by the show to talk about Crossing For A Cure, it is a long-distance endurance paddle challenge and international championship race that takes paddlers 80 miles across the Gulf Stream from Bimini in the Bahamas back to the Florida mainland. The event was inspired because of the incredible health benefits of the Ocean for those living with cystic fibrosis, a terminal lung disease. Travis Suit's daughter Piper was diagnosed with CF when she was four years old. They encouraged the community to join them by supporting them on their next long-distance endurance paddle challenge, an 80 mile journey across the Gulf Stream from Bimini in the Bahamas back to the Florida mainland on June 15th for the official 2019 Crossing For A Cure! The Crossing for a Cure provided a great opportunity to show that no matter what obstacles we face in life, we can always use the gift of choice to persevere.

Tom Shed came by the show to talk about The Florida Folk Festival is the Music and Arts celebration of Florida. Presented by your Florida State Parks, the Festival is the oldest State produced festival in America! Ellen Wiss, founder of Read USA called into the show to talk about the upcoming book fair serving the largest number of highest needs students in our community each with the choice of three FREE brand-new books. She talked about equipping kids with book ownership just before school lets out for summer break. With new books in hand, low income students will have a cultural experience over summer and many will develop a love for reading, setting them up for success. READERS are LEADERS! We also talked about Local philanthropist and READ USA supporter and friend, Delores Barr Weaver, has offered a challenge grant to enhance the POWER of reading!!

Susan Lawson a local teacher, came by the show to talk about COTA ( Children’s Organ Transplant Association) for Team Bentley B. They are planning a Food Truck Rally Fundraiser in honor of three-year-old Bentley Bullard, who needs a life-saving Liver transplant. This event will be held on Saturday, May 18th at 9600 San Jose Blvd from 4 p.m – 8 p.m. The event will feature food, fun for the kids, a raffle and live music by Cat Ridgeway and the Tourists. Local volunteers are hoping to raise $45,000 for COTA in honor of Bentley. Susan Lawson is very passionate about this event because Bentley B is her Grandson!

Cindy Kirty , Karen Hughes and Carissa Vaugh came by the show to talk about the 2nd annual Lip Sync For Lungs taking place on Friday, May 10, 2019 at UNF’s Robinson Theater. This is a Fundraiser for the American Lung Association. Local celebrity performers fundraise and compete to be crowned Lip Sync For Lungs Battle Champion! The evening includes drinks, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and lip sync performances. All funds raised support vital lung health research, provide asthma education programs for local youth, and fund lung cancer research. Celebrities such as Carissa Vaughn who is a hair stylist and the owner of Phi Eco Salon in Jacksonville Beach will perform to raise funds to support the American Lung Association - Lip Sync Battle!.
