The Bible says persecution will not go away before Christ’s return. To think and say otherwise is wrong—false teaching. The Bible commands us to read the signs and to be alert.

Christians understand what injustice really is—a denial of what it means to be human under God. Scripture declares that “we are His workmanship” (Eph. 2:10a).

Since Jesus came to “seek and to save that which was lost” (Lk. 19:10), we are destined to walk that path too. His heart is for the weak and vulnerable, the widow and the orphan. God commands His people in Psalm 82, “Vindicate the weak and fatherless…. Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked” (Ps. 82: 3a, 4b). Through the prophet Isaiah, God obligates His people saying, “Learn to do good; seek justice, reprove the ruthless, defend the orphan, plead for the widow” (Is. 1:17). There is no one more widowed than a woman who thinks she must choose between her life or her baby’s. There is no one more fatherless (orphaned) than a baby whose life is disdained by the ruling and religious elite (Lk. 10:31-32).

And now Scripture says to the Christian, “For we are His workmanship…created for good works…so that we should walk in them” (Eph. 2:10).

Abortion is a symptom of a shipwrecked society. Instead of sailing the deep waters of human dignity, valuing all people equally as made in the image of God, the hull is breached in the shallows of 330 million sharp rocks of individual autonomy—everyone doing whatever is right in his own eyes.

King David once said, “Reproach has broken my heart” but faith in God’s salvation caused him to yet say, “I will praise the name of God with song” (Ps. 69:20, 30). So, while pro-life people and organizations like CompassCare are being vilified, threatened, violently attacked, and treated like second-class citizens, we mourn not for ourselves but over the abuse of women and the destruction of vulnerable preborn boys and girls.

In Ezekiel, it appears that those who are marked for salvation are so because they grieve over the slaughter of innocent children. In the Bible, a mark upon the forehead symbolizes one’s allegiance. There are only two marks, only one of two allegiances a person can have: the mark of God as described in Ezekiel and elsewhere (Rev. 7:3, 9:4, 14:1) or the mark of the beast (Rev. 13;17; 14:9, 11). The mark of the beast is on the majority, those who forsake God’s ways to obey the organized governance of this world characterized as anti-Christ (Rev. 13:3; 16:2).

And the mark of God rests on the minority (Mt. 7:14). One way to tell if someone is marked by God is if they grieve over the sins of the people as God does. God through Isaiah says of the Savior, “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted . . . to proclaim the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn” (Is. 61:1-2). This kind of sadness sheds new light on that Savior’s beatitude, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” (Mt. 5:4).

In January 1973, the Supreme Court legalized abortion. Roe was reversed on June 24, 2022. We predicted in 2018 that reversing Roe would not stop abortion but rather force it to move online via tele-abortionists or concentrate it in abortion hub states like NY. That has happened. And CompassCare was prepared. Together through 2022, we expanded infrastructure to serve more women in-person in abortion hub cities like Buffalo, Rochester, and Albany. And we also built a telemedicine platform, called TeleCare, to reach and serve women before they travel or have the deadly chemical coat hangers mailed to their homes all while being firebombed, censored, and attacked by pro-abortion politicians.

The struggle to protect women and preborn babies from abortion is far from over. Abortion numbers continue to tick up 1-2% per year as new theatres of battle have opened in the war to save human life, threatening women, preborn babies, pro-life pregnancy centers, and Christians who believe that all people are made in the image of God and are therefore equally valuable, without qualification.

God is interested in saving people. Thankfully, people are also very interested in being saved whether or not they admit it. The problem is that most people turn to anything and anyone but God in their pursuit. We think salvation can be found in medicine, a higher standard of living, more knowledge, or a relationship. “But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Prov. 18:24b). When a woman faces unplanned pregnancy, she is tempted, like all of us, to exhaust all the worldly means at her disposal in order to solve what she views as a problem pregnancy. But the world does not have the solution. The world stands ready to sell her the only tools it has to offer: fear it calls wisdom, isolation it calls independence, and death it calls choice.

Jesus came to contend, but not with man. His coming represents a full-frontal attack on the reigning kingdom of sin and death. He came to enter into the darkness of death through the cross, dispelling it with the light of His presence. Jesus became sin on our behalf in the sight of God the Father, drank the full cup of the wrath of God’s perfect justice upon sin, and the darkness simply could not comprehend Him. So it is that He arose from death victorious, becoming Lord even over the grave. Jesus’ self-sacrifice at the cross is a death blow to death—violence to end all violence, the hope of resurrection. As the kingdom of Heaven continues advancing forcefully, citizens of His kingdom need not fear the violent men, those that threaten us with our old enemy, death.
